This week's Black History Month special is the Fried Smothered Pork Chop with skippin’ jenny and pickled apples. Created by line cook, Kendall Ceruti, this dish was inspired by the father of the Harlem Renaissance, Alain Locke, who released The New Negro anthology of fiction, poetry and essays in 1925. #blackhistorymonth #redroosterharlem #harlem #harlemrenaissance #alainlocke

We're toasting to the legacy of Langston Hughes with the Black is Beautiful cocktail made with black vodka, basil, agave, limoncello & lemon zest.
.
“My People" by Langston Hughes
The night is beautiful,
so the faces of my people.
The stars are beautiful,
So the eyes of my people.
Beautiful, also, is the sun.
Beautiful, also, are the souls of my people.”

“Black History Month is important to me because I grew up in the South hearing stories about our cultural traditions and the experiences of our ancestors, but it really is about continuous learning. Working in Harlem and learning about the writers and creatives who fought with their pens by telling our stories is really inspiring. It’s an honor to work in the same community and walk the same streets as people who fought for my rights and told stories that will live on forever. And honestly, it's an honor to be a Black man.” - Aris, Line Cook #bhm #redroosterharlem #harlem #meettheteam #blackhistorymonth

Created by Chef Almira Session, this week's #BlackHistoryMonth dish is a culinary tribute to poet, novelist, activist, and playwright, Langston Hughes. Its been said that while living in Mexico during his early years, Hughes' favorite meal was roasted duck with stuffed pear and steamy tortillas. Our special is a twist on this: Roasted Duck Leg with masa biscuits, mojo sauce, and confit pear. #bhm #langstonhughes #tribute #harlemrenaissance #redrooster

Our celebration of #BlackHistoryMonth continues with the Claudette & Ruby, a cocktail honoring two history makers who stood up against injustice. In 1955, when she was just 15 years old, Claudette Colvin was the first woman who refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus. Then in 1960, Ruby Bridges became a symbol of the civil rights movement as the youngest Black student to integrate schools in the South. Claudette & Ruby is made with prosecco, elderflower liqueur, lemon and homegrown mint. Cheers to these icons! #mixologymonday #bhm #redrooster #harlem

"What I love about Black History Month is that it celebrates all the things Black people have created, because there are so many Black inventors that we don't know about. For instance, my daughter recently did a presentation on Mary Van Britten Brown, a Black woman who created the first home security system in 1966. So this is really just a time for us to learn and be proud." - Chari, Manager #blackhistorymonth #meettheteam #redrooster #harlem

This week's Black History Month special is created by Chef Jaqueta Tucker. Her Catfish Hushpuppies with moonshine and spiced molasses is inspired by the Red Summer of 1919 when an overwhelming number of anti-black protests sparked the beginning of the civil rights movement and fueled the Great Migration. #blackhistorymonth #redrooster #harlem #bhm
