Every child deserves the opportunity to thrive. The opportunity to be taught knowledge that will further their emotional and physical development so that they may find success of a different kind, so that they may find the strength to fight for freedom in a world that is filled with systems that oppress so many beings with such impunity.
These children you see here are astute, inquisitive and thirsty for knowledge. They want to learn. They want to know. They care. About themselves, about their community, about their fellow earthlings. It is up to us, not only to show them the way, but also to undo the miseducation they so often receive.
Thanks to teachers like @menarbunar this is happening in a public school setting, which many times, isn’t the ideal place for a true education.
May we continue to nurture, love and protect our black, brown, and indigenous children.
May we continue to do the same for all children.
So grateful for the children that kept me in awe and with a smile on my face! They started the Q & A themselves AND started sharing stories all on their own!
So grateful for the parents who, after a long day of work, joined their children in this experience.
So grateful for my @hiphopisgreen_nj /@hiphopisgreen Family: Peter, Jimie, Rose, Nicole
And in case y’all were wondering, yes, during the presentation we discussed great leaders such as Angela Davis, Dick Gregory and Coretta Scott King- leaders who fought for the rights of humans and recognized the connection of the interconnected-ness of all oppression, and therefore were also vegan.
We also addressed the destruction of Native food systems by colonizers and how racist food policies affect the poor, brown, black & indigenous folx.
