What was the first time your learned about working hard for what you wanted?
In 8th grade, we were invited to go on a trip to explore historical landmarks down the East Coast, but we had to pay for it. In a working class neighborhood, our parents couldn't pay for such a trip, so as a group we worked to make sure as many of us could make it to this once in a lifetime chance.
I remember selling tamales with my mom, selling chocolates the entire year, cancelling a car wash fundraiser because of a rainy day, and hosting fundraisers with our phenomenal teachers. We were young, we were motivated, and most of all, we shared educational experiences that many in our communities would ever dream of. - 6 minutes ago
