Ethiopian religious ceremonies.
In Ethiopia religious and pagan, fervor and dance, mingle in religious ceremonies.
The Church of Ethiopia is one of the few churches in Christendom where the form of worship has been preserved and maintained in the same manner as was done in the fourth century.
The scene is biblical. The faces, the drapery, the prayers, the chants, the fervor: one feels projected in the middle of the Old Testament.
The faithful are scattered everywhere, some sitting some kneeling, others lying. Almost all man and women, carry a large white mantle that covers completely their emaciated bodies. There are those who pray, those who sing and clap, and those who are conversing quietly.
In the gloomy interior of Churches, shrines active as they are, colourful ceremonies are carried on in an unintelligible language even for parishioners, Ge'ez, the official liturgical language, the ancient language of the empire of Aksum.
Life has not changed in centuries and people still go to Mass every day.
This is mainly due to its geographical location and the historical events that led to its virtual isolation from the rest of the Christian world from the seventh century.
Paradoxically the first mention in literature about Ethiopians was in Homer's epic. In his writings Homer talked about his kindness and that lived at the end of the inhabited world, and they were a people that the gods liked to visit.
He was right. ◽◽◽◽◽◽◽◽◽◽◽◽◽◽◽◽◽ #blackandwhiteisworththefight #believeinfilm . #chavigarciaphotography #blackandwhite_perfection #pentax #trix #kodaktrix #bnw_mood #love_bnw #bnwlife_member #picoftheday #photooftheday #travel #travelphotography #ishootfilm #instadaily #instagood #ethiopia #africa #mass #church #documentaryphotography #photojournalism #filmphotography #love_bnw #loveblackandwhite - 1 minute ago
