Yawl at the End of City Dock
I believe this is yawl anyway. It’s a beautiful beamy boat with lots of wood and old brass. I had to go down to the end of the dock just to look at it closely.
Wondering the docks again at high tide. The water has so many ways of being, it’s fascinating. Today was a glassy calm day. Of course we are in a harbor in Puget Sound, so it’s very protected here, but there are days when the water is angry, roiling, even rocking the massive ferries this way and that. But today the sea was calm, clear and tiny fish silvered about just under the surface as gulls, ducks, and herons flew just above the water, landed and dove to eat them. Life on the water or near the shore is so close to nature, as close as the ranch I grew up on, perhaps closer because the ocean, unlike the prairie can’t be tamed. Polluted, poisoned, abused and over-fished, but not tamed. I’m grateful to live near the sea, I never want to be away from the ocean again.
