Mushroom Oats Porridge •
•
🍄 Ingredients:

A teaspoon Oil
1 tsp grated ginger
1 small clove of garlic, thinly sliced
1½ cups Quick Oats
2 cups water
⅓ cup sliced brown mushrooms
1 tsp salted butter
1 egg
Salt & pepper to taste
Green onions and black sesame seeds for garnish•

🍄 Directions:

1. In a pot, heat the oil and sauté the grated ginger amd garlic. Add oats and stir for a few seconds before adding water. Add water according to your consistency preference. The boiling oats will be cooked in just 4 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.

2. In a separate pan, sauté the sliced mushrooms in butter till they are just cooked/crispy (up to you, really!). Remove from pan and fry egg in balance grease. Assemble and top with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Yum! #BCRamadanRecipes

❗HERE ARE 10 TIPS TO REDUCE NUTRIENT LOSS WHILE COOKING:

1. 🍢Use as little water as possible when poaching or boiling. •
2. 🍢Consume the liquid left in the pan after cooking vegetables. •
3. 🍢Add back juices from meat that drip into the pan. •
4. 🍢Don't peel vegetables until after cooking them. Better yet, don't peel at all to maximize their fiber and nutrient density. •
5. 🍢Cook vegetables in smaller amounts of water to reduce the loss of vitamin C and B vitamins. •
6. 🍢Try to eat any cooked vegetables within a day or two, as their vitamin C content may continue to decline when the cooked food is exposed to air. •
7. 🍢Cut food after — rather than before — cooking, if possible. When food is cooked whole, less of it is exposed to heat and water. •
8. 🍢Cook vegetables for only a few minutes whenever possible.⚠️ •

Lazy boob or some call it the slacker breast, could be the result of frequently feeding on one side because you are more comfortable with a certain position. Over time, the "neglected" breast does not feel the need to replenish as quickly or as much. But sometimes, they are naturally so. Bless them! 🤗

To combat this,

1) Let baby nurse on lazy boob as often as possible even if you feel that there isn't much milk left. The short rapid sucking motions baby makes is able to trigger the release of oxytocin hormones which is responsible for the "let-down" milk reflex --- much more effective than any pumping machines ❤

2) Shake and massage lazy boob first before nursing or pumping.
.
3) When taking a hot shower, particularly focus on massaging your lazy boob.
. .
4) After a pump session with both breasts, rest for 10 minutes and pump just the lazy boob again. There might be an ounce of milk left in there. Even a few drops collected will signal the lazy boob to work harder to replenish and "catch up" with the other boob.

🍃 MINT (薄荷叶 / DAUN PUDINA) .
▪︎ Traditionally, peppermint oil (in addition to several other herbs) has been used in order to help decrease milk supply. Some breastfeeding moms have reported a noticeable decrease in their milk supply even after only ingesting small amounts of the herb such as that found in peppermint teas, strong peppermint candies or menthol cough drops. .

🌿 FENUGREEK (胡芦巴 / HALBA) .
▪︎ I know right! 😱 Some women can have the opposite effect – especially women who have a thyroid problem. Fenugreek can “influence the active thyroid hormone your body uses. This [can] make hypothyroidism worse and reduce milk production.” Fenugreek/halba are often added in curry so if you have the opposite effect, then you might experience a drop in your supply. .

✔Don't count minutes. Feed on demand! You can leave your baby on the breast until she comes off on her own and then offer the second breast. It's typical for some babies to take one breast at some feedings and both breasts at the next or stay at the breast for longer periods than others. Let baby lead the way. The first few days my daughter stayed at the breast for hrs it seemed. I now understand that this was a part of the process. She was DEMANDING her supply for future days. .

✔If possible, AVOID pacifiers. It is recommended to delay the pacifier for the first month because it can suppress hunger cues and take away time from the breast. Remember constant stimulation is key to milk production in the early days.

. ✔ Try Side-Lying position.  This position can help assist baby with latching & help mama be more relaxed & comfortable.
.
. ✔ Do not skip meals and snack on milkboosters. Many times mamas forget to eat. Fuel your body, mamas. Even if you are eating/snacking on smaller meals throughout the day. EAT UP! 😉 Its recommended that a breastfeeding mama eat 300-500 additional cals a day. .

✔ Drink up! Hydration is important. You need to drink additional water to stay hydrated while breastfeeding.  Aim to drink the amount of water that you need each day for good health and then drink to thirst beyond that. .
