I hear members at the gym saying phrases like “New Year, New You” and I can’t help but stop and respond by saying “New Year, New Improved You!” This is the time of year where almost everyone has at least something they intend on improving with their lifestyle whether it be nutrition related, going dry for January, starting to use that gym membership, etc. My biggest tip for setting your goals is to make sure that they are 1. Realistic, and 2. Broken down into short term and long term timelines.

We need to set ourselves up for success, and setting our expectations way too high with an unrealistic amount of time to achieve those expectations is almost always going to be a flop. My biggest advice that I am giving my clients while they are on their fitness journey is to remember that short term goals lead to long term results. We MUST set ourselves up for a win, people! So let’s say you’re working on your nutrition, start by focusing less on what you are eliminating, and more on what nutrient dense foods you can add to your meals and making an effort to drink more water. If your goal is to develop a fitness routine at the gym, start by setting a goal to make it in for 2 workouts a week, and then gradually add in days as your lifestyle adjusts to the new routine! If you break your diet or miss the gym or have that glass of wine, don’t beat yourself down about it- just jump back in the saddle the next day.

Either way, just know that you don’t need a “New You.” YOU are already enough. Just improve what you already have, little by little, and don’t forget to really celebrate your victories! 📷: @garyreckelhoff

The other day at the gym, a member came up to me and said: “Do you know what I love about you? Every time I see you, you’re always eating!” That, Ladies and Gentlemen, is a true fact, and just know, you’re body isn’t going to fuel itself!  Always have healthy snacks on hand for when that Hanger Spell sneak attacks you out of nowhere. Some of my faves are trail mix (try to avoid the ones with too much refined sugar additions), apples + nut butter, homemade protein shakes, berries, roasted veggies, and remember...everything in moderation! When doing endurance activities, for example like the hike I was on in these pictures, I’ll throw in some fun reward indulgence treats, like this homemade banana layer cake with dairy-free chocolate buttercream! FUEL. THAT. TANK.

Thinking about starting a blog......but for now, here’s a bomb diggity smoothie bowl I made for lunch today! The protein is key to help keep you fuller for a longer period of time without the crash. 
Harvest Smoothie Bowl:
1 scoop @livbody protein
1 scoop @livbody collagen 
1/2 raw cranberries
1/2 cup pumpkin purée
1 tsp fresh ginger
1 tsp fresh turmeric 
1/8 tsp cinnamon
8 fl oz unsweetened vanilla almond milk
