Jake Cooper felt a point was no more than #TheHeed deserved following two late goals at Guiseley on Saturday.
The @officialrufc loanee felt that the first-half scoreline didn’t reflect his side’s display in the opening 45, saying: “We’re really happy to come from 2-0 down and get a point away from home, especially in really tough conditions.
“I think we definitely deserved it, I thought we were really good.
“The goals, we know they were individual mistakes really between us. I think we were really good in the first half and we just needed to keep doing what we were doing.
“We knew it was going to be a battle and we came back out fighting in the second half.”
It was in doubt as to whether the game would even go ahead on Saturday morning with a planned pitch inspection amidst flooding and heavy winds, and both sides found out why with the winds causing a few problems in the opening 45.
“When it’s like that it’s always really difficult, but there’s nothing you can change at the end of the day,” Cooper added.
“We tried to get it down when we could and we did that well first-half, and created a couple of chances.
“They scored the two goals but apart from that I don’t think they really created too much, I thought we were the better team in the first half.
“I think we created quite a lot of chances in the second half, had a few shots from distance and we put in a lot of crosses, so once the first goal came we always felt we could nick a second.”
That 2nd goal on the day for @gfc_official was also Cooper’s second for the club – he netted his first in a 4-2 win over Leamington earlier this month.
The draw also extends the current unbeaten run to 10 games, with the Heed currently 8th in the league.
lly happy, it’s always nice to get on the scoresheet, especially in the last minute to get a point away from home and celebrate with the fans at the end,” the defender beamed.
“We showed great character, it was always going to be three tough fixtures this week with Guiseley and then Boston and Chester.
“It was good to show that character to keep the unbeaten run going into these next two big games.”
