“What was the point behind shotstoshakes?”
Honestly? I didn’t have one at all when I pressed “create new account.” It was an account where I wanted to post gym selfies without clogging up my personal Instagram. 🤳🏼
I started my recovery journey in January 2016, and it felt more like an afterthought if anything. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧, 𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐥𝐲, 𝐈 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐦𝐞 - women who were scared to get sober, but knew it would change their life.
Women who saw their friends get wasted on weekends and wonder why they couldn’t just moderate like a “normal” person.
Women who woke up hungover in a panic, knowing that this wasn’t serving them anymore, but terrified to tell their friends.
Women who were cracking open their stories and finding strength in their ability to be vulnerable.
I didn’t see this in my college days. I didn’t know that there was this secret door to a lifestyle that others thrive in everyday. But once I got a taste of it, it had to be shared.
So, to answer the question after three years of trial, error, and growth, I can firmly say that the vision is this:
𝗪𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞.
We’re here to say, hey, it’s ok if a substance isn’t serving you anymore - let’s explore how you can navigate this. Or that there’s no shame in wanting to improve your mental health. Or that you don’t need to take everything at face value - critical thinking is beautiful and NECESSARY in this messy world.
We are incredible, multifaceted creatures, and I want to thank you for coming along this ride. Let’s continue to evolve together. 🥰 - 50 minutes ago
