Back in November, we found out that the owner of one of our favorite restaurants in Los Angeles, Pink Taco, died suddenly in his sleep at the age of 38. Like most in this city, I assumed it was drug related. Two days ago, his autopsy report was released and it was found that the cause of death was sudden cardiac death caused by the very same heart condition that I had surgery for in November. The news hit me like a brick. Being confronted with the fact that this very easily could’ve been my fate is sobering and overwhelming. I can’t help but look at this and think that there’s work I have left to do on this earth that hasn’t been done yet. .
When I say I’m grateful to be here, I mean just that. This life is but a vapor. Make the most of it while you can. Love hard. Forgive quickly. Treat others well. And take care of your hearts ❤️

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States. One person dies every 37 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease. About 647,000 Americans die from heart disease each year—that's 1 in every 4 deaths - Center for Disease Control⁣
⁣
🔥But you're worried about a virus that is very possibly manufactured and primarily killing people in areas with little to no medical intervention.🔥⁣
⁣
Want to save yourself??⁣
⁣
Look in the mirror and ask yourself what's really important.⁣
⁣
Chances are that you know someone who died from heart disease. Who do you know that's died from or even gotten coronavirus?⁣

Priorities folks.⁣

You Spinach Me Right Round, Baby, Right Round Like A Record, Baby, Right Round Round Round! 🎹 Spinach has just about everything your heart needs, including plenty of omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, B vitamins, and fibre. Spinach is particularly rich in the water-soluble B vitamin called folate. Folate is important for building and maintaining healthy cells, especially healthy red blood cells needed for heart health.
I called my Amma up again and got this Bengali Sag Aloo (spinach and potato) recipe from her 🇧🇩. I chose to use sweet potato to the standard white potato; mainly because it was left in my cupboard from a previous meal 🤷🏾‍♂️ The ingredients for this dish were fresh spinach, sweet potatoes, onion, garlic, ginger, birds eye chillies, dried chillies, cumin seeds, black mustard seeds, ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, chilli powder, olive oil and salt to taste (keep it low); if you like your meals to taste “salty” you can always add extra turmeric👌🏾I served on a garlic, coriander and parsley nan bread; I would have gone for a wholemeal nan bread but they seem to always be out of stock at my local South East Asian supermarket…I’m guessing everyone is watching what they eat these days 🤗 I put a few bits of fresh coriander on top (I can’t help myself) and I squeezed a lime on top too. This is another vegan recipe so perfect for all dietary requirements and it was very, very tasty 😋😋😋 In time, I’ll edit a video on how to make these dishes because they really are easy once you get the basics on lock down 🎥

Every hour about 12 Canadians over the age of 20 years old who are diagnosed with a #heartdisease die. As staggering as this statistic is, early detection of high blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol can help reduce risk. #Savealife by learning #FirstAid http://bit.ly/2ROKmLO or call 1(800) 665-7114 #HeartMonth

DO YOU KNOW YOUR NUMBERS? According to @american_heart, normal blood pressure is below 120/80 mm Hg. @cdcgov says having #hypertension (high blood pressure) puts you at risk for #heartdisease and #stroke, which are leading causes of death in the U.S. Getting your #bloodpressure checked regularly could identify a problem before it starts. Do it for yourself. Do it for your loved ones.

“I’m Molly & I’m spreading awareness about #congenitalheartdefects (CHD). I’m 32, & last summer I was diagnosed with #WolffParkinsonWhiteSyndrome. I was 12 when I fainted for the first time & then began experiencing severe shortness of breath with exertion. I’ve been dancing since age 7, so when I reached my late teens & could barely jog a lap around a gymnasium, I knew something wasn’t right—but, my first cardiac testing at age 18 yielded no answers. Subsequent testing in my early twenties still left doctors baffled. I gave up & thought I must honestly be crazy. I was determined to improve my cardio respiratory endurance & became a fitness instructor in 2013. I saw improvements & felt that I overcame these obstacles. But, last year I developed new, frightening symptoms of tachycardia episodes while at rest. Shrugging it off, I just thought I needed to push through it like always. Last June, my new family doctor performed an #EKG , as she does for every new patient. Sure enough, that result showed #WPW loud & clear. I underwent an EP study/ablation procedure shortly after to destroy this extra electrical pathway causing the dangerous #tachycardia loops. The surgery lasted almost 6 hours, & two accessory pathways were destroyed. This post was supposed to signify my triumph over WPW, but the day I took this photo, I went to my 5 month post-op appointment & learned that unfortunately my condition has resurfaced... More testing is in order & possibly a second #ablation . But, I believe this condition has made me a stronger person, & I feel a sense of responsibility & great purpose to spread awareness about WPW. I will continue to act & live in the present, doing what I love & dancing through the storm. I want people to remember to not judge a book by its cover, because you might be very surprised to learn what someone is going through. My condition is invisible, but I struggle physically, mentally, and emotionally. Heart conditions can be detrimental to people of all ages, all walks of life, all abilities. My wish for others is to listen to your heart and follow it always—literally & figuratively. #Bekind to yourself & others.” @molly_gaynor ❤️ #awarecauses

It’s been long overdue that the US nutritional guidelines would reflect the most up to date science-based information. Saturated fat is not bad for our health! How many more years will it take for FDA to change that stupid food pyramid? How much longer parents are going to feed their children sugary processed cereals for breakfast and believe they are doing right by their children because they feed them low-fat diet? How much longer are diabetes association is going to recommend low fat sugary diet to their patents that is slowly killing them? #choosemyplate advice is a crime to society. ______________________________________________________ #fda #fdaapproved #heartassociation #diabetes #diabetesawareness #saturatedfat #fat #heartdisease #heartdiseaseawareness #science #research #eatrealfood #justeatrealfood #keto #ketogenicdiet #paleo #ketolife #ketolifestyle #paleolifestyle #nutrition #nutritiontips

Atherosclerosis is the narrowing or hardening of arteries from the build-up of plaque that can block normal blood flow or break-off and cause a clot. When atherosclerosis occurs in the arteries that supply blood to the brain, Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) develops and is major risk factor for stroke. Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) occurs when there is atherosclerosis of arteries in the legs, which can lead to ulcers and even amputation.

CAD and PAD impact an estimated 25 million Americans, which makes these serious diseases important to call attention to and publicly discuss.

The Alliance for Aging Research and WomenHeart The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease will be co-hosting a Twitter chat on Wednesday, March 4 from 1:00-2:00 PM EST to discuss the risk factors, symptoms, prevalence, incidence, impact on women and minorities, serious consequences, and treatment options for CAD and PAD.

Be sure to follow the handles @Aging_Research and @WomenHeartOrg on Twitter and use the hashtag #CADPADChat in your tweets so that you can see the questions that we’ll be asking throughout the hour.
