Help Others | I’ve always said I don’t believe in altruism because we will always get something out of helping someone else. Helping others activates the parts of the brain associated with pleasure, so at the very least we get that good feeling!
This is me the first time I got to hold our son, 2 days after he was born. I’m clearly exhausted like any new mum. I was waking through the night to express and then making the hour long drive to the hospital on a daily basis. I don’t know what I would have done without the help of others during this time.
Messages of support, lifts to the hospital, meals being made for us and help cleaning the house all meant the world when we were in our new baby haze. If you’ visiting a new mum offer to hold the baby while they nap or shower, take them a coffee or make them a cup of tea, if they have older kids maybe take them out for a little while. And once all the excitement of the new baby wears off and the visitors stop coming, that’s when new mums really need the support. #5waystowellbeing - 9 minutes ago
