Check it out! Another stroke success story!

Background info: 
When Nick first started with us, he was 3 YEARS POST STROKE. His physical therapists weren’t able to justify treating him for over a year. He was showing no signs of improvement and he reached his “functional plateau”. The family noticed that his function was continuing to decline. They decided to call RenewMe Fitness to see if we could help.
•
Nick, and his trainer, Minh, have been working together for a year now. When he started, he was able to get out of a chair, only 3 times in 30 seconds, and had to use momentum and his arm to pull himself up to standing. Now he's deadlifting 20lbs without assistance, and has tripled his Sit to Stand score, without using momentum or his arm.
• 
It would also take him around 30 minutes to walk from his dining room, down 4 steps, and into his living room, with the help of his caregiver. After just a few months, Nick was able to independently walk to the McDonalds, over a half mile away! 
Now we just gotta work on him eating less McDonalds!

But in all seriousness, he worked hard to get to where he is now. His strength has increased, his gait has improved, his stair mobility is significantly safer, and his overall quality of life is better.

After a year of training, Nick is able to perform all of his Activities of Daily Living (eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, and continence). Thus the family does not need to write that huge check they've been writing, for the past 4 years, for a caregiver to stay with him during the day.

Here's some background: - Survived a stroke 5 years ago
- 5 years of Neurologists telling him he will never walk.
- 5 years of getting around in a power wheelchair
- 2 years of physical therapists telling him he will never walk independently, and that he should focus on "maintaining what he has left"
- 3 years of being on a 3x week "maintenance program" with a Doctor of Physical Therapy
- 3 years of seeing an adaptive exercise specialist, 2x week, teaching ways of how he can adapt to his "new normal"
- 2 months ago, our trainer Lauren, @greenw1tch, stepped in and said, "fuck all that, you're gonna walk". (Maybe chose different words).
- now his MD's, PT's, and other trainers are shocked and saying, "oh wow, look how far you've come, weve been doing the same things for 3 years, what could have caused this change?" It's @RenewMeFitness people!!! This is what we do! We think outside of the box. We don't follow basic protocols. We work with individuals, to achieve THEIR OWN GOALS. We break down walls that others impose on our clients. We encourage, empower, empathize, cry with, give a piece of ourselves to our clients.

As the new year approaches, I can't help but reflect on 2019 feeling so blessed by the amazing love, encouragement, friendship, and support I've received from so many special people. I could not do this life without God and YOU! As I enter 2020, I'm choosing to RENEW my hope, my faith, my health, and positive habits. Here is our lovely client Ms. Fran, a dementia and Parkinson's patient. When she began her training, she was timid and anxious, and rarely wanted to move at all. Here she is at a recent session, playing a game of "Crossing the Creek" trainer Tricia. She was up on her feet for 50 minutes!!
