This painting is called “Second Born”. It was made in early 2017. When I first started working in this style I couldn’t have told you where it would lead, but it felt right. It was the most natural progression from where I was at. There were kinks to work out and conceptual ideas to solidify, not to mention I was working out of a different studio every other week. A friend of mine @knowledge_bennett gave me a workspace, supplies, and a lot of help with direction in finding my voice, in understanding my place in the context of art history and the continuation of its conversation. The piece is called second born as it was the second of twenty paintings made in that studio. The piece and the series borrowed from Clyfford Still pallets, and then using the fluid motion of the paint as opposed to a knife to canvas application allowed a redirection of the sentiment while maintaining an assertive and violent tone. These pieces more than others articulate a sense of the persons place being that of injecting an exponential level of chaos into the otherwise calm world and if frozen at any moment one can see the causal relationships and the impact the person actions have. Anywho, enough ramblings thoughts. Enjoy your evening.
