Shoutout to the awkward turtles in the house. 🐢〰️🙌🏽 Lean all the way into it, bb.
Here’s a 2019 favorite quote from the brilliance of Natalia Smirnov, @myideaofyou for the Moon Times Digest on leaning into our awkwards:
“In English, the root parts of ‘awkward’ literally add up to ‘going in the wrong direction’ or ‘turned backwards.’ In original Sanskrit, however, the name for awkward pose is ‘utkatasana.’ Here, the root ‘utkata’ can mean ‘fierce,’ ‘wild,’ ‘powerful,’ and ‘frightening.’ This difference is appropriate. The yoga posture is awkwardness made intentional, a practice of creating competing skeletal and muscular orientations to strengthen the arms, legs, core, and spine, and increase circulation and flexibility. We often label ourselves (or others) as awkward when we demonstrate a lack of grace, alignment, or coherence. But being ‘backwards’ or ‘wrong’ with intention can make us more powerful.” 👹💪🏽
