“This appointment does not have the final say about you. It’s just a stop on the journey. It will teach you how to keep trusting yourself and taking care of yourself. It will be another reminder of your dignity and wisdom. It is not for loss. It is not for loss.”

.
This is an entry from my journal today before heading into another doctor appointment. A quick loving note to myself. A word of grounding and truth and goodness. Wherever you are today, whatever door you may be stepping through, I hope you are well...and I hope you remember your dignity. .

Dandelion is widely used in herbal medicine for its lipid-lowering, diuretic, liver-supporting and antioxidant activities.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Many individuals with thyroid disease have issues with lipid levels or constipation, two ailments dandelion can effectively treat. Dandelion also has a bitter taste which can stimulate digestive enzymes and transit times which can help with the sluggish digestion that may accompany hypothyroidism.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Finally, because dandelion supports the liver in detoxification, and environmental toxins and chemicals can act as an insult on the thyroid, dandelion can aid the body in eliminating toxins that may affect the thyroid’s ability to function optimally

We could add so many other things to this list of #hashimotosdisease symptoms. I have had recurrent FLARING and painful salivary glands and neck glands since the onset of hashis. Docs say... hmmm maybe it’s this or that. Then those tests are negative. Negative for #sjogrenssyndrome negative for stones or tumors. Pretty sure it’s simply a Hashimotos thing. So that list is not the end all he all of hashimotos hell. #autoimmunedisease #thyroidproblems #chronicillness #autoimmunewarrior

Elderberry Syrup is a Thompson family staple during virus season!! It just takes one night per month to whisk up a constant supply of this immune-boosting syrup, so throw on your favorite movie or grab a good book and get this recipe simmering! 🌿Place all ingredients except honey in a sauce pan, bring to a boil over medium heat then reduce to low and simmer for up to an hour, until the liquid reduces by half. 🌿Remove from heat, cool for 15-20 minutes. 🌿Mash the berry mixture well to release all the healthy goodness and then strain into a glass bowl with a pouring spout. 🌿Once the mixture is mostly cool, stir in honey and mix well. Transfer to a glass canning jar (I like to divide between 2 8oz jars) place lids on while liquid is still warm and set in fridge to cool. 🌿Once you open the jar, use within 2 weeks, or within 1 month for unopened jars. 🙋🏻‍♀️I like to take about 1 tablespoon daily for maintenance care and 2-3x daily when I’ve been around sick people. When I start to feel sick, I take 1 tbsp every 20-30 min for the first 2 hours, then once every hour for 4-6 hours and finally 1 tbsp every 2-4 hours until I have beat whatever was coming on. (I do this along with other wellness practices like steaming/detox bath, bone broth with chili pepper, hot mustard, essential oils, herbal tea, REST etc. based on the situation) ✨Take it straight or add to sparkling or still water for a refreshing and hydrating drink. Serve over pancakes or any other way you’d use a syrup!

Makeup is a pervasive, and with brands like @kyliecosmetics and @jeffreestarcosmetics, the cosmetics industry is one of the most lucrative and growing sectors of the private world. Regardless, the hidden dangers of the chemicals found in these products remain under-addressed.

Last week, we wrote about these chemicals: their implications, prevalence in our makeup products, etc. 👉🏻 bit.ly/2v5OVHl

This week, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite non-toxic makeup brands, including foundations, highlighter, eyeliner, mascaras, and more.

Homemade chicken soup is good, but not the most exciting lunch. So glad I had my brother’s @risingsmokesauceworks hot sauce in my desk to kick it up a notch in flavor! 🧄 🌶 🍲

Breakfast, lunch, brunch....when you only eat twice a day you can call that first meal whatever you want! Personally I love brunch the most. :) For the last month and a half I’ve been eating breakfast and dinner with a 13 hour fast overnight. Sometimes I have a small snack in the day. There have been a few occasions where I’ve broken this to have lunch with friends, but overall I’ve done it pretty perfectly! I’ve noticed that it’s changed the way I connect with food. Instead of eating three meals a day because that’s what you do I eat with more purpose. I’m only eating twice, so each meal is fun and I’m invested in what goes in my body. By the time my next meal comes around I’m excited to eat again and decide what I’m going to have. I feel so much more connected to what I put into my body and I’m more aware of the nutrients. Since I haven’t eaten all day I also think less about how much I’m eating and simply eat because I’m hungry. It sounds so obvious and like a no brainer, but when you live in a world surrounded by vices and consuming I think this connection to our bodies and mind gets lost.

It's Tuesday, and normally we would be having a LIVE conversation -

Since my voice is not cooperating and I have a devil of a fever...I’m writing you my Pain Free Tip Tuesday 💜

_

Managing sick days when you have chronic illness can be a real challenge.
_
Many of us have been wired to do well and push through pain, fatigue, and traumatic emotional distress to still be at work and productive no matter what

_ * Do great on your job and build great relationships so that everyone knows your work ethic
* Take your down time to replenish your strength
* Have your FMLA -Family Medical Leave Act paperwork filled out by your doctor/provider yearly so that it is there if you need it
Most companies require a year of employment before you are eligible for this benefit
Ask questions in the comments...this is important 💜

On my drive home the other day,⁣
⁣
I was on the phone with my parents.⁣
⁣
They happened to be visiting Southern California while the kids and I were down there,⁣
⁣
so I was able to visit with them in the evening after being at Disneyland all day.⁣
⁣
My parents mentioned how surprised they were that I had so much energy after being at Disneyland all day,⁣
⁣
and driving over ten hours the day prior.⁣
⁣
I agreed that I felt surprised by how great I felt too.⁣
⁣
Later, I thought about just how much my life has changed in the two years since my rock bottom.⁣
⁣
How I am doing things I wondered if I’d ever do.⁣
⁣
Not because of medicine.⁣
⁣
There was no medicine my doctor could give me.⁣
⁣
Because of:⁣
⁣
nutrition (AIP),⁣
⁣
lifestyle,⁣
⁣
and mindset.⁣
⁣
The craziest part of the whole thing to me???⁣
⁣
Even two years later,⁣
⁣
I am 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 seeing improvements in my health.⁣
⁣
I am 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 finding myself able to do more,⁣
⁣
and continue to see the results of healthy eating, living, and thinking.⁣
⁣
While I am not on strict AIP anymore (I eat a modified AIP with reintros),⁣
⁣
I often share about AIP because changing my nutrition was the start of an amazing new chapter in the story of my life.⁣
⁣
I 𝓁𝑜𝓋𝑒 sharing about the importance of nutrition, lifestyle, and mindset…⁣
⁣
because I am living proof they all matter.⁣
⁣
Me being able to physically get out of bed and live my life is proof they all matter.⁣
⁣
And if you are where I was two years ago...⁣
⁣
𝓅𝓁𝑒𝒶𝓈𝑒 𝓀𝓃𝑜𝓌 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓇𝑒 𝒾𝓈 𝒽𝑜𝓅𝑒.⁣
⁣
𝐘𝐨𝐮 have the power to change your life.⁣
⁣
And you can find joy in the journey.

If your OUTPUT isn’t you feeling alive/energized: there may be an opportunity to adjust some INPUT.

This includes:
.
🗣💭 THOUGHTS
.
▫️The thoughts you allow to soak in and stay awhile have *power* — that input will directly impact your output. The mind-body connection is REAL.
.
▫️Research shows that our thoughts + emotions have widespread effects on bodily processes like metabolism, hormone release and immune function.
.
▫️A study published in Neurology shows that cynicism is linked to higher levels of dementia. Our attitude we allow to soak in our heart + mind directly impacts our output and how our body functions.
.
🍅🥤FOOD + DRINK
.
▫️Research shows time and time again that how we nourish our body has everything to do with how our body will feel, thrive, move and be! Putting actual food (from the earth) in has truly drastic effects on the output of our body.
.
▫️More than 60% of the American diet consists of highly processed foods that have been taken apart and put back together again w various combos of salt, sugar, oil and additives like chemicals/pesticides/herbicides.
.
▫️How we fuel our body has both immediate + long term effects. This is something that we all have to personalize because we are all bio individual!
_______________________________________________________

Recently, I have been checking my thoughts — are any negative or fixed-mindset thoughts sticking around as chronic input— or do I quickly remind them they have no place? ✌🏻This taking place throughout my days is making a difference on my output. Thoughts matter!
.
For many years I was doing and feeling fine but not really allowing my body to thrive. My input included less real food + more toxins (fake sugars, ingredients in food I can’t pronounce). Today I am on a journey of truly nourishing my body well, and feeling alive because of it.
.
➡️ Have you noticed your thoughts you allow to SOAK IN impact your OUTPUT?
.
➡️ Can you tell a difference when real, nourishing food is going in?
.
➡️ How does your OUTPUT feel when your INPUT changes?
.
There is of course more to it, but these areas are a great place to start. Friends: what do you think? I’d love to hear. 🤍 #awholehealthlife

This week is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.
~
Excuse my sweat head😓, I just worked out. My tank says Never Quit on the front. And Fight For It on the back. Depending on the week, this can mean different things.
~
Today, well starting yesterday, it means that even though I don’t eat perfectly the way I know I should, doesn’t mean I throw in the towel.
~
The past 3-4 weeks, I have been on the struggle bus with eating. Before keto, I was a sugar and carbaholic. I was a kitchen cruiser, a cabinet surfer, a fridge freak. Then keto happened and I no longer eat sugar or bad carbs. But my brain still remembers that 🎢 roller coaster of highs and lows with mood as it related to food.
~
I have not been as carnivore as I should be for my body the past month. I ate vegetables 🌶 🍅 and things made with almond flour and keto bars. Now for most people, this isn’t a bad thing. But for me, it brought back cravings for other things. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t binge on keto treats because you so totally can. And I have. Usually I can handle them in moderation.
~
So what has happened? I was afraid to weigh myself. Everyday I woke up feeling heavy, bloated, my joints were tender and I felt huge. I finally weighed this morning. My weight is unchanged. 🤔.
~
1st reaction was relief. 2nd was, I don’t feel so huge and heavy today. I’m gonna crush my workout. Which I did!
~
Got home and thought about how the scale is like the devil. It got in my head. This stupid piece of glass with numbers on it is setting my mood for the day, I am not in a good head space. This is not ok!
~
I didn’t even want to take these pictures but I felt it was important because I still view my body as it was 40lbs ago with a completely different body composition. I’m so much stronger, fitter, and healthier than I’ve ever been, but my brain still sees and feels the “other me” from time to time.
~
I know that what I eat totally affects what I think about myself. This week I started making changes in my diet and I know I will think more rationally and realistically about myself. NEVER QUIT. FIGHT FOR IT!

This week I started making changes in my diet and I know I will think more rationally and realistically about myself. NEVER QUIT. FIGHT FOR IT! - 1 hour ago
