When a firefighter told me how the face/lip/body butter was helping his dry hands from the constant hand-washing and gloves, I wanted to do more. Earlier this week, a bunch of butters were donated to the entire fire department 👆👆👆. Today and over the next few days, more butters are being donated to nurses caring for infected patients in the South Bay. Many thanks to all the first responders for your bravery and dedication. Another thing I’ve been meaning to do for so long but never made the time... drying lemon and orange peels! They have been such a great addition to my daily teas. Aside from tasting amazing, they are so full of vitamins! And sometimes (okay, maybe a lot of times...) I just open the jar to smell it, it’s like a little burst of happiness and sunshine 🌞 I just wish they didn’t look so creepy.

Due to my long history of eating A LOT, late at night & then crashing into bed - I’ve had problems with my digestion and sleep quality since I can remember.

This time has allowed me to dive deeper into Ayurveda, the sister science to yoga, which I’ve been wanting to learn more about since @shevibeshigh spoke to me about it on our YTT with @namaslayytt !! #homieshoutout

Since I can’t replace every ingredient in my home overnight, I figure the best way to integrate this science and see how it helps was to consistently practice the Ayurvedic Clock and eat meals in a way that supports proper digestion.

Since practicing the Ayurvedic clock for a week I have noticed:
🤍Quality of sleep improved and I need less of it 💤 .
🤍Better steady energy balance through the day.
🤍ROUTINE AND SMOOTH POOPS 💩 .
🤍Strong focus when I need it
🤍Permission to play and seeing it as a necessity
🤍Improved time management and less procrastination !! .
.I simply want to share a lil wisdom with you. ✨

If you have a fam and don’t live the single one BR life like me - this will probably take more time to integrate than a week.

Warrior Not Worrier

Crisis Schooling 3 kids while caring for an infant AND still maintaining a 30+ hour a week job from home has been challenging to say the least.

Yesterday was my hardest day yet. I broke down and cried my little heart out at my computer desk. It’s just all been too much. 
One of my biggest fears in life is being seen as not capable enough

Because of this, I struggle with asking for help and with sharing my true emotions with others. This keeps people from ever really being able to  K N O W me

I never want to be seen as not capable

This whole experience of taking on all these new challenges all at once has shown me that I will never be able to do absolutely everything flawlessly. It’s also shown me that I am a terribly sensitive to stress

But I refuse to give up or allow this challenging time to paralyze me. So here I am , up and at em and facing another day head on.

MICROBIOME

Did you know that we have about 3-4kg of bacteria + other microorganisms colonising our body? Most of them can be found on the skin + anywhere in the digestive tract from the mouth to the anus + even in the vagina. Within this microbiome live bacteria, fungi, protozoa as well as viruses + parasites. Some are very necessary for the health of the gut/body, others not.

Now the crazy thing is, the state of your microbiome can influence the rest of your body and even your MOOD! A microbiome that is out-of-whack can result in anxiety/ depression/ low mood, sleep disturbances, hormonal changes, skin conditions eg that chicken skin/ pimples on the back of the arms, consistent thrush/ bacterial vaginosis, fatigue, food sensitivities, weight gain, vitamin deficiencies + frequent infections to name a few. .

The important thing is to start considering your microbiome for everything. Will consuming or doing this/that help or harm?

Things that can make the microbiome unhappy include:

❌ Alcohol/ smoking etc
❌ Processed foods, high sugar etc .
❌Over or under eating .
❌In some people with sensitivities - dairy, gluten, shellfish, eggs etc .
❌Chronic stress .
❌Frequent antibiotic usage w/o supplementing correct probiotics etc

.

My next few posts will go into more microbiome stuff, simple things you can do to help your microbiome to thrive + a guideline on how to choose good probiotics (I did a 3 month challenge of raw probiotics!)

Meet the indispensable ingredient of Ayurvedic cuisine, Ghee!

Ghee, known as "Plain Oil" is obtained by separating milk fat from milk protein in butter, which is called casein. It is used not only in meals, but also in treatments and as a body oil for massages.

It supports digestion and improves vitamin and mineral absorption. It contains antioxidants that will support our immune system, gives energy, and contains vitamins A, D, E and K.

According to Ayurveda, Ghee is a sattvic food, which means pure. Satvic nutritions are foods that provide mindfulness, intimacy, and consciousness expansion.

It is an extremely healthy fat free from lactose and milk. It does not burn easily, in facti it’s burning point is 250°C. You can cook with Ghee and fry without worrying.

At the same time, it does not need refrigeration as Ghee does not spoil easily.

How to prepare?
You only need some good quality, natural butter made from cow's milk.

Put the butter in a medium-sized pan. Turn the heat to medium until the butter melts then turn down the heat and let it boil.

Once completely melted, the water in it will begin to foam.

Move away the foam with a cleaned and dry spoon without touching the bottom of the oil.

Be very careful not to burn the casein that collapses to the bottom.

When Ghee turns in a clear gold color, pour it through layers of cheesecloth into a clean dry glass jar.

You can store it at room temperature for up to 3 months or in the refrigerator.
