BOOMBOX ETERNAL-SAM SPARRO
-Fresh Friday; New Release-
Funktronica, Neo-Soul, Nu-Disco, RnB with an 80s New Jack Swing feel
-Love Like That
So this was a fusion album that I actually really rated! Sam Sparro has always been prominent in this fusion sound since the beginning of his career however is this sound now which other artists such as Dua Lipa & Adam Lambert are starting to mimic.
There is a really good mix of upbeat and slow tempo tracks which create good balance however it’s the up tempo tracks such as “Pressure” & “The PPL” which just hit me hard and make me wanna groove. This is firstly due to a thicc bass line (which will always be my weakness) mixed with a catchy melodic line. Most of the tracks also had some really good beats rhythmically which really drove the track and feel.
I loved the subtle fusion of 80/90s New Jack Swing- sort of like a Bobby Brown sound at times-as evident in “Love Me Like That” which imo just made the album more musically pleasing. I gotta day that this album also started off really strong as well as the first 3-4 tracks were absolute bangers. We then start to mellow out in the middle of the album with “Eye 2 Eye” which had a more RnB feel to create differentiation. We then progress back to an uptempo finish which I felt was a really good musical journey.
Overall, I don’t think there was a song I disliked in this album. It was really consistent and had some good things going on vibe wise and musically. I personally would’ve liked more exploration with dynamics but I felt it was really well produced and really pinpoints Sam Sparro as an artist. An underrated album 💯
