I was moved to tears watching the memorial service for Kobe and Gianna Bryant today.
Sure, Kobe was an intensely competitive basketball player who played the game with the #MambaMentality .
But that's not what touched my heart. Instead, I was moved by the stories of his passion for life and the people he loved.
He was a #GirlDad , a devoted husband, a best friend, a champion for others, a teammate, an artist, an Oscar winner, a child of God, a visionary and an inspiration.
I got goosebumps when I heard that he taught himself how to play "Moonlight Sonata" by Beethoven on a piano when he was on the road because he missed his wife so much and he wanted her to know how much he loved her.
I laughed when Michael Jordan said he really didn't want to speak at Kobe's funeral because he knew he was probably gonna cry and it was just like Kobe to put him in a position like this so that the picture of him crying could be used to make memes for the next 3 years....and that was just like Kobe.
As star after star after star saluted Kobe, the real story of who Kobe was came from his best friend and Lakers GM, Rob Pelinka and his wife, Vanessa who shared intimate details of who Kobe was as a human.
We should all be so inspired as to live our lives with purpose and passion like Kobe....to love hard....to work hard....to live loud and to always put those we love first.
I had missed the meaning of the date the selected for this memorial service. It seems fitting that it be held on 2-24-20.
RIP Kobe and Gianna.
You leave behind a legacy that most can only imagine.
