Gratitude lists...sometimes they just don’t work!
Because you have to feeeeeel your feelings. And by just writing a list of the things that we’re grateful for, doesn’t mean that we are in the feeling space of gratitude, and if that’s the case, it can perpetuate a cycle of feeling anything but grateful. Many mental health issues can stem from avoiding our feelings and being told to make a gratitude list when you’re feeling anything but grateful can actually be more damaging.
Sometimes creating gratitude lists are playing it small in life and what’s needed is the opposite - to play big is to feel our feelings: to look at what’s going on inside. Sometimes, that’s the only way that we can naturally land into the feelings of gratitude. I love gratitude lists but we can’t force gratitude or any other feelings for that matter. We just need to meet ourselves (and each other) exactly where we’re at...that’s where the magic happens.
