If you don’t know, I’m new to rap and music in general but I’ve been learning a lot and want to be the best at what I do. Today I decided to learn about how to become a better songwriter and here’s what I got:
How to become a better songwriter ✍🏾 Practice: make song writing a daily habit.
Co-wrote: two heads are better than one. You get to share ideas and learn something new. Also it expands your listeners to more than one perspective.
Personal motivation: positive reinforcement. Elevating and nurturing your creativity.
Rework existing work: look out what’s already there and tell the story from a different perspective.
Have an open mind: don’t focus on one single theme or idea, creative process can take you in different paths.
Avoid overthinking: The perfect song does not exist, so don’t stress about it if this song is good or not.
Ask for honest feedback: it’s a good idea to get other peoples perspective. If something you wrote didn’t get the success you intended it to, don’t get upset. Get feedback on what worked, what didn’t. What was liked/disliked then use the knowledge to enrich new songs.
Mix it up: try different topics/genres/etc. write different elements, keys, lyrical theme, think outside of your usual boundaries. Aim to switch up on songwriting, and to switch up the topics that you write about. Pace/Tempo/Geners. Mixing up your songwriting style will naturally expand your talents and skills.
Know when to take a break: Creative process requires a lot of brain power so when your thoughts are not flowing take a break.
Learn your music theory: if you don’t know what the rules of music are, it’s impossible to break them in a way which is both purposeful and well executed - (Source: Tunely) - 1 hour ago
