Two days ago, @iamtabithabrown told us to remember to recharge, “because if you ain’t the best version of you, you ain’t no good to nobody else.”
I am listening to her.
As I have been working through 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘵’𝘴 𝘞𝘢𝘺 in the middle of all this 2020 lockdown and revolution, I am learning more than ever before that deep change comes not only through honest reaction to crisis but also through deep rest and recovery that leads to long-term intentional action.
We are more reasoned when we’re not living from our stress responses. We are more gentle, more able to see others, less afraid to hear and listen and learn what we need to learn.
The world has spent this first half of 2020 in survival mode, scrapping and clawing for anything safe to hold onto. What if we spent the second half living and working and changing from a place of rest? What if we let ourselves recharge enough to actually become the change we’ve begun to internalize in our “new normal?”
It’s okay to take a break. To think about whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable. We can’t bring light into the darkness if we only see the darkness.
It doesn’t all fall on my shoulders, or on yours either. We each have our own fire to bring. There is yet grace to be found — for all of us — in this.
