Over the past few years, I’ve been experiencing some significant personal, career, and health transitions (long before this COVID-19 chaos) that have forced me to reflect on my values and priorities and identities.
One of the lessons I’m learning is to untangle my career from “passion.” Quite frankly, fuck following your passion. Life isn’t that simple. Humans aren’t that one-dimensional. And that’s okay! Some of us don’t have a passion at all. Some of us have multiple passions. Sometimes our relationship to passion ebbs and flows.
So instead of following my passion, I’m learning to follow my curiosity. Unlike the rigid expectations of passion, curiosity is fluid. It evolves as you evolve. It asks nothing of you but your presence, here and now. It might lead to passion or it might lead to absolutely nothing. Either way, it’s a hell of a lot more enjoyable.
Being quarantined amidst a global pandemic is another one of those circumstances turning my sense of self and place in this world on its head. I don’t know what life will look like a month from now or a year from now. But I’ll be here following my curiosity, one day at a time, wherever that leads (even if it’s just within the confines of my house for a while). @elizabeth_gilbert_writer #bigmagic #books #read #passion #curiosity #creativeliving #inspiration #quarantine #coronavirus #covid19 - 3 hours ago
