Oggi sarei dovuta essere in Universitร  Statale a Milano per ricevere il Grant Fondazione Umberto Veronesi 2020. Invece siamo tutti a casa, seguendo le indicazioni per combattere insieme questa terribile emergenza.
Ma la ricerca non si ferma.
Infatti continuo a lavorare allo sviluppo di un kit per la diagnosi precoce del cancro al seno monitorando gli auto-anticorpi. 
Ringrazio Fondazione Umberto Veronesi che anche quest'anno ha scelto di finanziare il mio progetto insieme a quelli di altri 185 ricercatori.
Ringrazio Moncler, azienda che sostiene da anni la Fondazione,  che ha deciso di finanziare il mio progetto.
Ringrazio tutti coloro che hanno fiducia nella ricerca scientifica e la sostengono concretamente: senza di voi non potremmo continuare a studiare per combattere le malattie e salvare vite preziose.

Detection of cancer or tumour cells is based on detecting markers such as DNA or RNA or protein sequences which are overexpressed. But these sequences need to be first amplified for their detection.
Researchers at the University of Illinois have developed a graphene-based biosensor for detecting cancer markers circulating in a patientโ€™s blood or serum.
Graphene is a flat sheet of carbon one atom thick, low-cost material used in electronic sensors. When this plane graphene sheet was crumpled, the sensitivity was found to increase by tenfold. It could sense DNA and cancer related micro RNA in both buffer solution and undiluted serum sample ten times better than the flat graphene. This ultra sensitivity eliminates the need to amplify the DNA sequences.
This increased sensitivity can be explained by the formation of concave regions in the crumpled graphene. The DNA molecules fit into the curves or cavities and so can be easily detected.
