I slab and coilbuilt this black piece on-site in Malaysia last year. The exterior had strips slowly cut away in sections. It was dried on a coconut fire and fired in the Aquagama for 80 hrs, but sadly the kiln got a little hotter than expected and because of the clay's high iron content it sunk on the furniture support - that's why the centre raises up a little like a belly 😬. The glossy interior mark is caused by sand and ash dripping from the ceiling of the new kiln construction in clumps (common with new builds). .
I absolutely love the exterior so i've decided to turn it into a wall mounted sculpture, but I can't decide whether to leave it black, refire it in an electric kiln with glaze inside, or refire it with a shino next woodfiring... thoughts welcome. Watch this space. - 6 days ago
