Ichu's brunch is probably one of the best kept secrets in Hong Kong, with solid food and chill vibes hidden away underneath the leafy palm trees on the sunny terrace. Brunch starts off with an appetite-whetting platter of daily ceviches, incorporating signature elements such as sweet potato and leche de tigre. A vibrant quinoa salad is served so that you can detox after the debaucheries of the previous night. And because every decadent brunch would not be complete without some form of crustacean, indulge in the meaty lobsters served on steaming rocks! This all leads up to the choice of mains, from either short ribs to a grilled chicken. These may sound like basic choices but trust me, whilst I am often bored by brunch mains, these are definitely some of the best main plates I've had! Deliciously smoky and impossibly juicy grilled chicken, flavoured with an explosion of oregano (I ate a whole chicken here the first time I came lol) was always going to be a winner with me. Slow-cooked short ribs were also nice, with a good proportion of fat for that coveted melt-in-the-mouth feeling! Proof that literally almost everything that comes out of the kitchen is tasty, the side of sweet potato was not your basic beach thin, limp sticks of tasteless carbs. Rather, they came as generous chunks of punchy purple potato, deep fried with its skin on for a super crunchy exterior and almost lava-like soft and fluffy interior. Rather heavy but I could have eaten more of this (were it not for the thought of my ever-tightening jeans...). Finally, an impressive show of a dessert platter arrived, with small taster portions crowning a multi-tiered stand from which dry ice smoke flowed. Those with big appetites like me will love the creme brulee and pandan ice cream, but if you're full then you can always nibble on the fresh fruits. All in all, a pretty good deal for brunch in Central with amazing views, chill vibes on the outdoor terrace and more importantly, consistently good food!
