What do I do before my warm ups? These great DNS exercises that are based in developmental kinesiology.

All of these exercises are based off of movements we start to learn as infants but often times distance ourselves from in adulthood due to all the sitting and other bad habits we create.
🌿
Do this to reconnect with your primal stabilizing patterns! These exercises are also great for during pregnancy and once you’re cleared for exercise postpartum and are in line with #BirthFit recommendations.

WE ARE STILL SEEING PATIENTS WHO NEED CARE! We are unfortunately holding off on wellness patients for the time being as it is not as urgent.

If you’ve ever had TMJD you know what it’s like when your jaw isn’t working properly. Babies can have it too. I find that I am able to determine which side a baby prefers to eat from and even if they had their hand by their face while in the womb or came out with a hand by their face just by looking at the jaw.

👉During this season of staying home and social distancing, we know that it’s especially tempting to sit on the couch and binge Netflix 🖥 all day. But now is the PERFECT time to start taking steps to move our health FORWARD!

🔹 The Quadratus Lumborum (QL) gets considerable attention in the therapy/fitness space for its claimed role in lower back pain. 
__
🔹 IMO the importance of this muscle is exaggerated (I can expand in comments if you wish) however I do believe there are cases where focusing in on this muscle can be valuable. While not exhaustive here’s some clues for me that I may want to focus on it 
__
✔️ The pain is located on only one side - the “flank” from the lower portion of the ribcage to the pelvic bone
✔️ The pain feels “deeper” than the muscles at the very surface on the back
✔️ The pain is affected by bending away from that side (a stretching feeling may be felt) or by bending toward that side/bringing the side of the ribcage toward the pelvic bone
✔️ There is a noted asymmetry in pelvic bone height - one side is -VERY- noticeably higher or lower than the other. If you question if asymmetry is there it isn’t significant. This could cause a feeling of a short leg 
__
🤔 If this sounds like you what do you do? I generally start by trying to figure out whether the QL spends most it’s time in a very shortened or lengthened (stretched) position. A demo assessing this is shown in Vid 1 
__
✔️ If in a very lengthened position I will focus on strengthening the muscle and potentially work on holding the pelvis steady during painful activities (say walking.) If in a very shortened position (pelvis riding high) I emphasize more stretching - though likely still include some strengthening 
__
🔹 Not everyone will fit in this neat box though, so going by what makes things feel better may be the best guide 
__
▪️ Included are several options for each 
__
2️⃣ Video 2 shows a way to strengthen the muscle & retrain pelvic control while walking
3️⃣ shows a way to isometrically work the QL
4️⃣ is a progression of 3
5️⃣ shows a way to isotonically work the QL with just a step
5️⃣ shows a stretch people tend to really enjoy using just a doorframe
6️⃣ shows a way to stretch /w a table
7️⃣ shows a way to stretch on the floor
