Every day I do 20 burpees. Why?
Originally I wanted to challenge myself to do 100 reps of a different exercise every day. That was never something I was going to follow through with. Exercise has never been my thing. Starting at 100 made me dread what the next step would be. I wanted to do something with longevity in mind rather than a quick, temporary fix.
I decided to start doing 10 burpees a day- no excuses, no exceptions. The goal in mind was to start something I would have to do daily that I could build on regularly. That small decision has started to create a ripple effect.
I noticed small changes happen. Ten burpees became 20 burpees. I began to realise that hesitating to start my burpees made the process longer than if I just got up and did them. I noticed that doing them the same way every time, without variation, got boring a sore and limited what else I could be exercising. After completing the burpees, I'm out of breath and therefore stopping to sit afterwards seems pointless, so I do other exercises instead. Small choices make a difference.
The next time you're unsure about starting to exercise because you aren't a pro in the gym, do it anyway. The next time you you hesitate before applying for a language course because you feel shy, do it anyway. They next time you want to help but don't feel you can make a difference, remember that all actions, all thoughts, all questions can start something that will make an impact. 🔥 What small step are you going to take today?
