A little hip flow to start the week.
. 
Exploring different shapes to move and travel along the ground is extremely rewarding and humbling.
. 
This sequence is one of my go to warm ups, along with some basic locomotion patterns. Why? Because it requires me to move my hips through complete ranges of motion.
. 
If you rinse and repeat the sequence over, you should travel in a complete circle. Use your hands for support and assistance where needed, and try to move softly and slowly.
. 
Say “Hey” to your hips, they’ll thank you later!

I often get questions about what are the best core exercises. First of all “Core” is just a concept that doesn’t really entail how the body works. Yes we need to be strong in the torso to produce and transmit force but it’s not a single unit to be trained. Good core training is just spinal awareness. Once you’re aware of how to move and not move the spine then it just becomes a meta awareness you can find in any position.⠀⠀⁣
⠀⠀⁣
Build Awareness ⏩ Build Capacity⠀⠀⁣
⠀⁣
Spine training needs to involve progressive loading and consideration like any other part of the body. Notice that when people need more “room” in a global movement, the spine is usually the first place they move from. Compensations for lack of shoulder and hip mobility usually involve moving spine. It’s no wonder most of the low back pain we see is usually accompanied with stiff hips, shoulders and mistreated vertebrae. ⠀⁣
⠀⁣
Train it to increase its capacity to move and absorbo force and you’re one step closer to unlocking your full movement potential.⠀⁣

Here’s a little peak into a private @Kinstretch session with John and Renzo.⁣

John came to me months ago, unable to stand for extended periods of time, and frustrated with decades of physical pain.⁣
⠀⁣
He’s tried every system, protocol, and approach he could find, and couldn’t get lasting relief until getting to a Kinstretch class.⁣
⠀⁣
In addition to his objective mobility improvements, John is now visibly lighter on his feet, more energetic, and smoother with all of his movement. He’s having FUN!⁣
⠀⁣
He and Renzo are filmmakers - they’ve been documenting his process and progress, hoping to conduct interviews and create a documentary.⁣
⠀⁣
Our intent with this session was to have Renzo film John as I coached him through all of his biggest homework priorities.⁣
⠀⁣
But of course, Renzo couldn’t resist joining in on the mobility goodness!⁣

Kinetic Stretching with Push-ups. 2x speed.
⠀
Ignoring the extra fun at the end (😏) this is a great way to progress your push-ups and prepare your shoulders for higher forces. And greater range of motion.
⠀
1️⃣ Start with protracted shoulder blades (pushing up and away).
⠀
2️⃣ Slow it waaaay down, actively pull yourself as far down as you can, using your shoulder blades first, and continuing to pull your chest down.
⠀
3️⃣ Once at the bottom, MAINTAIN your tension and just as slowly drive yourself back up. Spine doesn’t change throughout.
⠀
By going slow and not allowing gravity to help, you are only achieving range over which your body has control.
⠀
With regular practice, that range of motion will likely expand.
⠀
NOTES:
⠀
🙂 Go into pain-free ranges only.
⠀
🙂 The kettlebells allow for greater range of motion and also a more neutral wrist position. Very key if you don’t have great wrist extension.
⠀
🙂 If you can do push-ups fine, but experience problems with bench pressing or other loaded pushing, try mastering this first - the rest will be easy (and smaller ROM) by comparison.
