Machete Kills (2013)
Back in that alternate universe, Uncle Machete must get a Mexican kingpin across the walled border to prevent nuclear holocaust.
Again, this is exactly the kind of movie ya get with 5 billion producers attached.
I'm not saying it's really bad or anything, there's a lot to love about it, but it's wildly unfocused and seems quite clunky and clumsy and throwaway compared to the first film. It seems like it's going through the motions and missing a lot of beats in the process.
Plus, the titty count is decidedly low for some reason, and the kills less genuinely fun, if at least for the most part entertaining.
I got wise to its schtick altogether too quickly and it just didn't tug me along like the first did. I also felt it cheapened Michelle Rodriguez's character a bit, tho she looks like she'd absolutely slay in the jokingly (I assume, at this point, unfortunately) promised Machete Kills Again... In Space.
All that aside, there's still that amazing Rodriguez style. Danny Trejo is boss. Charlie Sheen was fun. And it was supremely fun and awesome to see some great faces like Cuba Gooding Jr. and Walton Goggins play the same character: an assassin with many faces.
Mel Gibson absolutely owns in this. It's a tribute to his acting ability that he can go from having fun in a junk movie to lets-take-this-shit-seriously-mode in the blink of an eye while making it seem natural. Fucking love that man.
I laughed outrageous at the 3D glasses bit. It seemed like Rodriguez making fun of himself for the Spy Kids stuff and I admire that.
And my undying respect to all involved for including Elon Musk!!!
Even if its as sloppy or sloppier than this, I do think Space Machete absolutely NEEDS to happen NOW.
Moral of the story: Well... Carmen really grew up 😂😂😂😜
