Just about 3 weeks ago #IRanWithMaud and hosted a fundraiser for The Action Pac, a nonprofit committed to ending racism and bigotry in America. Since that time, multiple other stories have come to the surface. Stories of racism and police brutality. Stories of murder. Of white supremacy. All at the hands of the police (or former police) - people we are told are here to protect and serve. .
It is WRONG. It is criminal. It is unacceptable. And, it MUST STOP.
Plain and simple.
One of the things that really strikes me is how deep the undercurrent of white supremacy and corruption run at seemingly every level. Ahmaud's murderers would have gone scot-free if it weren't for the public outcry. Similarly, Breonna Taylor's murder and the arrest of her innocent boyfriend would not have come to light were it not for the voices of the public demanding justice. .
And now, another innocent man is murdered, executed really, in broad daylight. By the Police.
Apparently those officers have been fired. But do any of us think that's enough? Would charging them criminally even be enough? .
Brothers and sisters are being MURDERED at the hands of cops on a regular basis in our country. THAT IS NOT OK.
People must be held accountable. .
(White) men must be held accountable. .
Our institutions must be held accountable.
The police, the government, corporations, and the like.
There are so many issues that need our attention, our hearts, and our fire right now, but given the state of affairs and the climate of our culture, I want to highlight an organization that is committed to ending police violence in America: #CampaignZero .
Check out their website if you haven't already. They give a ton of great ideas for ways to take a stand and demand the change you and I know is needed. .
You can also tune in to #DanceForLife this Friday from 7 - 9pm. We will be raising funds for Campaign Zero, coming together for our shared commitment to bring peace and justice for our people and planet. .
If any of you feel deeply about this issue and want to explore what else we can do to shift from hate and violence to LOVE and ACCEPTANCE, I’d love to connect 🙏🏽 - 51 minutes ago
