It's not so fast or so noisy, it's not so big or so young. But nevertheless, at his 45, he can complete such missions that are beyond the power of the youth. Its advantage over others is armor, simplicity, reliability, the ability to work on mobile small-sized targets and, of course, firepower.
"Flying tank", he's also "Rook" or "Frogfoot"... celebrates the anniversary. 45 years ago-on February 22, 1975, the su-25 first took to the air. It was piloted by the chief pilot of the Sukhoi design Bureau, Hero of the USSR Vladimir Ilyushin-the son of the legendary aircraft designer.
The first images of this attack aircraft, obtained from photographs taken from American satellites, appeared abroad two years later, in 1977. In NATO, he received the name "Frogfoot". This type of aircraft has been in different actions since 1981 and has been involved in many military conflicts.
Over the years, he continued to study, train, tow targets, and even technical staff, destroy tanks, fight in any weather, he began to see better villains and hooligans. He was taught to dodge strikes and, if necessary, take them. He was unanimously accepted and consecrated to sailors, even without drinking salt water. 😉
🔥🔥🔥 The Su-25 attack aircraft has always been a requested guest at all feasts of local wars. There is not one where the Rook would not take part. The nickname "Rook" was given to him in Afghanistan for the fact that he coped well with hatching the infection in hard to reach places. A little later, the name "Flying Tank" was transferred to him from the attack aircraft of WWII Il-2.
To the present day, the Su-25 attack aircraft adequately complete its missions and there is no replacement for it yet. I would like to express my deep gratitude to everyone who took part in the development and modernization of the legendary aircraft. Happy anniversary to you, my friend !!! (c) @shturmovik_su25 🎉🎉🎉🎂
If you arrive in Moscow, you can see with your own eyes this legendary aircraft during an excursion to the Central Aviation Museum in Monino.
