Do you observe Lent?⁣

I always struggle with what to give up for this occasion, and I’ve often chosen to focus on giving up sweets or fatty foods, choosing to deprive myself as part of my observation.⁣
⁣
These days, though, I’m seeing things quite a bit differently. ⁣
⁣
I don’t think I need to deprive myself - ever! An occasional treat is all part of my nutrition plan, and I really do enjoy them!⁣
⁣
So this year, I’m choosing instead to focus on doing something positive and renewing my energy levels. And crazy enough - one of the things that energizes me and brings me peace is a clean space. So this year: I am decluttering!! ⁣
⁣
We have just accumulated so much unnecessary junk and since our lives are so crazy busy, it’s so disorganized around here - piles of junk, drawers overflowing, and honestly, we just have a lot of stuff we don’t even need!!⁣
⁣
Can you relate??⁣
⁣
And here’s the thing - a massive Spring Cleaning Project just isn’t in the cards for me. I don’t have the time!! ⁣
⁣
But, breaking it down into small, manageable tasks is doable! So, for the next 40 days, I’ll be focusing on decluttering - competing one of these actions every day:⁣
⁣
🧼 10-20 minute smaller organization tasks - like cleaning out this cabinet that was filled to the brim when I started! ⁣
⁣
👚 Donating items, such as cleaning out my closet or send the extra unused blender I have had for over year to the local Goodwill⁣
⁣
🗑 Tossing those “I’ll fix it one day” items once and for all. Why am I hanging onto this stuff??⁣
⁣
Decluttering brings me peace and happiness, and for me, that’s what brings me closer to God. And I’m doing good for others! ⁣

When I first started getting into decorating, I removed all of the family photos I had on display in our house. 😬 I didn’t do it on purpose. I think I was just kind of following the lead of what I saw in most magazines and catalogs, which typically don’t show a lot of super personal items like that. When I realized that I didn’t have ANY of our photos out at all, I made sure to fix that fast! The key was to find a way to incorporate them in a way that flowed with my decorating style. For me that meant big frames (The photos here are 11” x 14”.) and simple grid or linear layouts. (I 💗 right angles! 😂 ) I also sneak some smaller family photos into my shelf decor as well. ☺️ What is your favorite way to add family photos to your home? 💗 #abbyorganizes .

All you need is less. Time to declutter in a sustainable way and buy only what you need, not what you want.

In the first place, you should only buy what you need and will use. Not clutter that you want but won’t use. But most of us do seem to accumulate lots of things over time. And a lot of clutter can make you feel stressed too. But just throwing it all in the bin won’t help the environment. So, what can you do?

Recycle your old electronics. You can drop them off at an electronics recycling center if they don’t work any more. In the best case, sell it to give it a second life.

Old clothes are often thrown away. But in most cases it is stil wearable. So consider donating them to charity or a second hand shop or even sell it and prolongating the life of this garment.

Books and DVD’s can be donated to charity too. Books can go to local libraries, learning centers, schools or sell them.

Medicine and supplements should be checked for expiration date. Many communities have take-back programs for safely and ethical disposal of expired medicines.

Plan your dinner for a week. You will save time and have nearly no waste at all. Only plan for 6 days. We do this all the time and its easy. I know what to cook when my girlfriend isn’t home yet and vice versa. We save in groceries and time because we only need to go once a week.

Say no to junk mail. Lots of junk mail is just getting into the recycle bin without being read. So, put a sticker on your mailbox saying no to junkmail. It might seem weird, but keep your emailbox decluttered the same way. If you get advertisement you do not want, just check the little link that says you wish to unsubscribe. It will save you a lot of time behind the computer and extra time to do something fun like riding your bike.

Have you ever tried a diet? Not that kind of a diet, that is gross and body shaming, no-no-no. Have you tried a shopping diet? Now THAT I highly recommend!! It's a liberating and eye-opening experience for anyone whose trigger-happy lil fingers swipe that credit card before your brain has a chance to process what's going on and why are you in Target again how did that happen.

Take a couple of weeks, months or even a year. It's the most freeing thing in the world to not spend time on buying. On trying things. On exchanging them again. To not even think about shopping. You know that consumption itch that you keep on scratching and scratching but it only gets worse? Let's soothe it with a shopping detox.

It frees up MINDSPACE.

And, suddenly, TIME. What you do with that time is entirely up to you, but there will be free time! Me? I work out. Read. Garden. Hike. All the things I used to dream about doing but never had the time, because I was too busy running errands! Not realizing, that most of those errands revolved around shopping... Life was not fun back then, and apparently I couldn't purchase fun in a store. Who knew.

And MONEY. It frees up so much money. Do you really need more summer dresses or is it effective marketing at work? The funds NOT spent can serve a better purpose, like rent or travel or emergency fund.

The plethora of benefits and we haven't even touched on the resource strain you are NOT putting on the planet and underpaid workers who create that cheap sh...irt purchased on a whim.

Would you try it? You've got nothing to lose but... Nothing :D I've got nothing. I see no drawbacks to No-Spend diets. Only the benefits.

Gonna go spend my freeeeee time in the gym.

Long post ahead. ⠀

TL;DR - Minimalism & how I was introduced to it. ⠀
⠀
I remember feeling overwhelmed because of the amount of unread books that I had on my shelf.⠀
You see, when I was new to bookstagram, I went on a spree, buying every book I liked/thought I would like/that was 'in the news'. ⠀
Few years down the line, when I was cleaning my shelf, I just decided to let go of all the books that didn't interest me anymore.⠀
I set aside all of them, even the ones I'd enjoyed at a certain point of time (read: twilight) & gave it away to kids in my area. ⠀
I also decided to stop buying books just for the sake of it's popularity or to increase my 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. ⠀
When I finally got over the impulse to buy books on the whim, I couldn't help but wonder what made me buy them unnecessarily back then.⠀

This was when I actually came across the concept of minimalism.⠀
I realized how much stuff I'd accumulated over the years ~⠀
-All the clothes I owned that I would (let's be honest here) never wear/wear when I'm fiTteR ⠀
-Journals that could take me forever to fill up⠀
-Stationery items for the said journals (just because I was obsessed with BuJo)⠀
-Handbags when I was actually just using a backpack for my everyday needs (because convenience)⠀
The list went on..⠀
It hit me that even though I had quite a lot, I still yearned for more. And this would never stop unless I made a conscious effort to understand what I REALLY needed. ⠀
So that's what I did.⠀
I stopped buying.⠀
I started giving away things that I absolutely wouldn't need.⠀
It was cutthroat because these things had costed me most of what I earned. ⠀
But it had to be done. And as I look back, I don't regret it one bit because I haven't needed a single thing that I gave away! ⠀
Of course, I'm no monk. I still have many things that are just.. there.⠀

Long post ahead. ⠀ ⠀ TL;DR - Minimalism & how I was introduced to it. ⠀ ⠀ I remember feeling overwhelmed because of the amount of unread books that I had on my shelf.⠀ You see, when I was new to bookstagram, I went on a spree, buying every book I liked/thought I would like/that was 'in the news'. ⠀ Few years down the line, when I was cleaning my shelf, I just decided to let go of all the books that didn't interest me anymore.⠀ I set aside all of them, even the ones I'd enjoyed at a certain point of time (read: twilight) & gave it away to kids in my area. ⠀ I also decided to stop buying books just for the sake of it's popularity or to increase my 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. ⠀ When I finally got over the impulse to buy books on the whim, I couldn't help but wonder what made me buy them unnecessarily back then.⠀ ⠀ This was when I actually came across the concept of minimalism.⠀ I realized how much stuff I'd accumulated over the years ~⠀ -All the clothes I owned that I would (let's be honest here) never wear/wear when I'm fiTteR ⠀ -Journals that could take me forever to fill up⠀ -Stationery items for the said journals (just because I was obsessed with BuJo)⠀ -Handbags when I was actually just using a backpack for my everyday needs (because convenience)⠀ The list went on..⠀ It hit me that even though I had quite a lot, I still yearned for more. And this would never stop unless I made a conscious effort to understand what I REALLY needed. ⠀ So that's what I did.⠀ I stopped buying.⠀ I started giving away things that I absolutely wouldn't need.⠀ It was cutthroat because these things had costed me most of what I earned. ⠀ But it had to be done. And as I look back, I don't regret it one bit because I haven't needed a single thing that I gave away! ⠀ Of course, I'm no monk. I still have many things that are just.. there.⠀ But it's okay. One of the things I love to do is share my ideas with groups. I've presented at conferences (in my previous career as a Communications and Marketing Manager), I've guest-appeared on live webinars, I've presented kitchen organisation workshops… And I've been on live TV and radio. .
This year I'd love to speak at any companies who run a staff wellness programme - I want to share my expertise on how decluttering can lower stress levels, increase energy and boost productivity. I think it is a fascinating and potentially untapped aspect of wellness. .

🚫Really just don't want to do any more "adulting" today!😫 😟Challenging day at work...I know we all have those...but man I CANNOT WAIT until my work sister gets back from maternity leave next week!!😳 Then driving home in the snow after 6:30 pm, really wasn't as relaxing as my drive home usually is!! It was hard to listen to my "Audible" book and enjoy it while driving cautiously in the snow!! So ready for a warm vacation or spring sunshine!!😎☀️ 《Currently listening to: "Decluttering at the Speed of Life!" If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it! They have so many books to choose from! Peep my stories to see my book!》 So, back to my story and  just feeling like I want to go straight to bed and ignore the world...all the normal kid messes they make in the 2 hours after they get off the bus frustrates me too..🤷‍♀️ 🤪I was glad we had leftovers in the fridge...spaghetti was Luke's choice and I really wanted some spiralized zucchini instead of noodles...but that takes too much effort on a night like this one!  I opted for a quicker version I just made up! Necessity is the mother of invention, right!?😁 ▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎ ↪Here's my Veggie Spaghetti "recipe"... Chop up one small zucchini and place in microwaveable bowl with a little water and desired spices (I used a dash of each --->garlic powder, italian seasoning & season salt). Steam in microwave until tender.  Top with heated leftover spaghetti sauce and finish with fresh parmesan!

Blended up a Healthy Vanilla Cafe Late and ta dah》》》》 I have a super EASY & HEALTHY low carb dinner complete with dessert!!❤ 🤔So, tell me have you tried zoodles?
