I remember waking up from 1 of my procedures and seeing this "fall risk" band on my arm and I was shocked. I was stung a little because it magnified (for me) the deterioration of my mobility due to Crohn's. I took this photo when I became more coherent because I know that I would be able to dance again! And I never wanted to forgive the hurdles that I've gone through while on this #IBD journey.

Peppermint fudge! 3 ingredients: 1.5 cups of krisda chips (or Lily's), 3/4 cup of all natural almond butter and 1/2 tbsp mint extract.

You melt the chocolate and almond butter together then stir in the extract. Fill a lined load pan and let chill. 
Makes 20 squares, each at around 3.5g net carbs. Night time eating may cause circadian rhythm misalignment which may increase risk of hypertension and diabetes.⁣

❤️ In one study of 110 participants, sleep and circadian behaviors were assessed in individual’s regular routines. Individuals with high body fat consumed most of their calories 1.1 hour closer to melatonin onset, which is the start of the biological night, than did individuals with low body fat (2).⁣ This doesn’t prove causation but is still an interesting observation.
⁣
❤️ In another study, eating 30% or more of a total day’s caloric amount after 6pm was associated with a 23% increased risk of developing high blood pressure and a 19% increased risk of becoming pre-diabetic compared to individuals who ate less than 30% of their calories after 6pm (2).⁣
⁣
⭐️ This may be due to the thermic effect of food being decreased at night compared to other times of the day.⁣
⁣
✅ When we eat matters, in addition to what and how much we eat!⁣
⁣
❤️ A lot of my clients are too busy during the day to realize they are hunger until dinner time hits, in which they are starving. When you are starving, you a) eat quicker, b) graze, c) nothing is ever satisfying/enough.⁣
⁣
⭐️ Night time eating may also contribute to mindless eating of poor quality or high fat foods which may lead to weight gain and chronic disease.⁣
⁣
✅ Our bodies should be at rest when we are sleeping and rebooting for the next day, if we occupy it with too much food, it may not work as efficiently which may lead to the above findings.⁣
⁣
❤️ Night time eating may be a piece of the puzzle and the whole person needs to be evaluated to see if it is contributing to higher body fat, blood pressure or prediabetes – all contributors to heart disease.⁣

Individuals with high body fat consumed most of their calories 1.1 hour closer to melatonin onset, which is the start of the biological night, than did individuals with low body fat (2).⁣ This doesn’t prove causation but is still an interesting observation. ⁣ ❤️ In another study, eating 30% or more of a total day’s caloric amount after 6pm was associated with a 23% increased risk of developing high blood pressure and a 19% increased risk of becoming pre-diabetic compared to individuals who ate less than 30% of their calories after 6pm (2).⁣ ⁣ ⭐️ This may be due to the thermic effect of food being decreased at night compared to other times of the day.⁣ ⁣ ✅ When we eat matters, in addition to what and how much we eat!⁣ ⁣ ❤️ A lot of my clients are too busy during the day to realize they are hunger until dinner time hits, in which they are starving. When you are starving, you a) eat quicker, b) graze, c) nothing is ever satisfying/enough.⁣ ⁣ ⭐️ Night time eating may also contribute to mindless eating of poor quality or high fat foods which may lead to weight gain and chronic disease.⁣ ⁣ ✅ Our bodies should be at rest when we are sleeping and rebooting for the next day, if we occupy it with too much food, it may not work as efficiently which may lead to the above findings.⁣ ⁣ ❤️ Night time eating may be a piece of the puzzle and the whole person needs to be evaluated to see if it is contributing to higher body fat, blood pressure or prediabetes – all contributors to heart disease.⁣ ⁣ ✅ I take a whole person approach to nutrition counseling. Primeiramente, o post de hoje é um oferecimento da professora Rogéria👩‍🏫 Nunes (@rogeria.ufs) que mandou a ideia no meio do corredor do departamento de Farmácia e me deixou pensando nisso a semana inteira.

Mas o que é o Sorbitol? 🤔O sorbitol é um álcool com gosto doce. Como ele não tem açúcar parece um componente perfeito de um xarope para diabéticos, certo? No entanto, o sorbitol também é um vilão do paciente diabético.

Quando os níveis de açúcar🍧⬆️ no sangue aumentam muito, algumas enzimas transformam esse excesso em açúcar em sorbitol em locais como os nervos, inclusive o nervo óptico, podendo gerar cegueira. Então pessoas com diabetes não podem usar xarope com sorbitol?

Acabei descobrindo que podem! 🤗Mas como? Após revirar alguns artigos, achei uns bem antigos que explicam aproximadamente onde vai parar o sorbitol que ingerimos: 1% urina, 13% fezes, 80% liberado na respiração. Tem dúvida de como a mágica acontece? Comenta aqui!

What’s Sorbitol?🤔 Sorbitol is a very sweet alcohol, and thus, it is a good alternative to sugar on cough syrup (and other medicines) for diabetic patients.

However, high blood sugar levels🍧⬆️ (hyperglycemia) lead to its transformation in sorbitol by enzymes on the nerves (including optic nerve). High sorbitol levels on optic nerve can cause blindness! Can diabetic patients use this?
