Happy Friday!! 🥳 Breakfast for dinner happens a lot in our house! This meal was @aldiusa protein pancakes made with oats {topped wi Th Greek yogurt, honey and blueberries} + 2 egg omelet Will with cheese and sliced mushrooms! 
You might notice no produce?! That’s okay for a snack earlier I had carrots and hummus and for after dinner snack I had apple with peanut butter!!

I can’t wait to experiment with this seasoning, I think it’s really versatile! It has a little bit of a kick, but nothing crazy. I’ve seen people using it as a seasoning on popcorn and on their eggs, which I will definitely be trying! ⁣

Let’s start with how chocolate is made, something that really is quite fascinating!

Every bar of chocolate is made from cacao beans which are found on the Theobroma cacao tree 🌳 The bean is harvested, roasted and ground into a thick paste called cocoa liquor. From this paste it is then hardened and pressurized to squeeze out the beans fat — giving us cocoa butter! Each of these ingredients are used in various quantities to create a chocolate bar. What gives us the difference between a milk chocolate bar and a dark chocolate bar is the portion of cocoa liquor used! .
But why is dark chocolate better for us than milk chocolate?💁🏽‍♀️

Because dark chocolate has more cocoa liquor, which stores all the good stuff (which I’ll go over below), so the darker the chocolate the more benefits you get! .
Did you know that dark chocolate with at least 70% cacao has been scientifically proven to be an excellent source of antioxidants? 💁🏽‍♀️These antioxidants help your body to prevent the damage caused by oxidative stress i.e. an imbalance of free radicals and antioxidants in the body, which can lead to cell and tissue damage.😓

PLUS the flavanols in dark chocolate can also stimulate the blood vessels to form nitric oxide, which helps relax blood vessels—this can lower blood pressure and improve blood flow. .
Dark chocolate is also rich in iron, copper, magnesium, zinc and phosphorus. But most importantly, dark chocolate can reduce insulin response, which is important for diabetics and sugar conscious consumers.🙌🏼

How dark must my dark chocolate be to derive any benefit? The proportion of cocoa liquor in a bar of chocolate determines how dark the chocolate is. Going into the weekend with a big bowl of this healthy Mac and cheese in my fridge for Sunday and I’m SUPER pumped for it. Pasta and cheese have been friends of mine throughout this pregnancy 😂 Also cavatappi noodles are AMAZING and you should definitely make this recipe with them. Do any of you struggle with over eating ? .

When I was in high school, I wanted so badly to be “skinny” like all the other girls—I struggled with comparing myself to popular girls and had a lot of insecurity. I thought that if I skipped breakfast and ate very minimal for lunch that I’d lose weight...but the problem was—when I’d get home, I’d be STARVING, and I’d end up eating everything I could get my hands on. What did that lead to?? Overeating, over-fullness, uncomfortableness, crappy feeling physically & emotionally...I didn’t know how to honor my hunger & fullness cues that my body was designed to use. .

On the blog this week I talk about 4 steps you can take to learn your hunger & fullness cues. These 4 things have helped me gauge my hunger so I eat when I’m hungry and stop when I’m satisfied. Does that mean overeating never happens anymore? Heck no...it definitely still happens, but it happens much less...and now, when it happens, I acknowledge it and move on. I don’t restrict. I don’t “diet”. I don’t compensate by over exercising. Give yourself and your body GRACE—progress over perfection 💕

2 cups of cucumbers, thinly sliced and halved or quartered
1 cup carrots, thinly sliced
1 red bell pepper, chopped
2 scallions, thinly sliced
