When you hear the word "cancer" it immediately conjures up fear, anxiety, a sense of doom 😞. True there are cancers that are life threatening and luckily there are some that have a very high cure rate. Basal Cell Carcinoma of the skin has an almost 100% cure rate, especially when removed by Mohs trained dermatologist. This technique involves removing the skin that looks affected by the cancer, 🧊 freezing it, then examining it in real time under a microscope🔬. If there are cancer cells within the specimen, the dermatologist 🥼 goes back and removes a little more skin. The goals of Mohs surgery are TWOFOLD. First, you remove all the cancer to increase cure rates from 80-90%to almost 100%. Secondly, it decreases the total amount of skin that needs to be removed.
Then... They come see me to repair the hole 🕳 that was left behind. This woman 👩 had a large skin defect that was on her cheek. I repaired it by removing a little more skin in an oval shape and then closing it with several layers of suture. Here she is, 3 months later 😇 with such a fine line of a scar...AND, it lifted that side of her face. She is so thrilled, 😱🥰 she wants a facelift! I used microneedling twice as well as @skinuva for managing her scar.
