Education 101: racism, sex and relationships
Welcome to my latest series.
Today we look at a James Baldwin piece. One thing I am often asked, is there racism in Australia? These are the words I want to say. “I don’t know what most white people in this country feel, I can only include what they feel by the state of their institutions.
I don’t know if most white Christians hate negroes or not but I know we have a Christian church that is white and we have a Christian church that is black.
As Malcom X once put it, the most segregated hour in our lives is high noon on Sunday.
That says a great to me about a Christian nation. It means I can’t afford to trust most white Christians and certainly can not trust the Christian church.
I don’t know if the labor union bosses really hate me, that doesn’t matter but I know I am not in their unions.
I don’t know if the real estate lobbyist are against black people but I know real estate lobbyist keep me in the ghetto.
I don’t know if the board of education hates black people but I know the text books that they give my children to read, and the schools we have to go to.
Now this is the evidence, and you won’t me to make an act of faith risking myself, my wife, my women, my children on some idealism you assure me exist here, which I have never seen.” Honest and deep meaning conversations has fallen to fear, moralistic judgements and lack of respect for each other.
So as an educator and life coach my mission is to get people to love, to know the power of vulnerability, rediscover their authenticity
dare to seek the truth from within. -
