Today for me the celebrations of the Vietnamese Lunar New Year officially started! We had our first meal and this was one of the dishes, amazing tender pork in sauce and quail eggs! 1️⃣Freshly made in your own kitchen-Daal chawal, roti sabji, poha, upma, dosa, khichadi, thalipeeth, cheela, idli, paratha, halwa pudi, chana pudi, ragi mudde, falafel, pasta..the options are plenty😋⁣ Find foods that are locally available and cook them the way locals do.
2️⃣Cooked at home and carried in steel dabba(/container)- Sandwiches, chikkis, laddu,chiwda,chakali,thepala,dashmi, lolo, paratha, puri or even simply nuts,dry-fruits and whole fruits.⁣
3️⃣Freshly cooked from scratch without dirty fats- Idli,pongal,uttapam,poha, pasta the list goes on. Choose freshly peeled and cut vegetables over ready-made gravies. Stay away from oily and buttery food when eating outside as these fats are poor in qualify and laden with trans fats.⁣
4️⃣Packaged- Your juices and your energy bars, your yogurts and your "healthy" soya, ragi and quinoa snacks. You got my point! Simple advise- Throw them away🤷⁣

Today we find most fruits and vegetables available round the year and it's really difficult to know what exactly is local and seasonal. Many people from our generation have moved to buying from online stores thinking it's fresh, clean and saves time. Even I have thought like that in the past but not anymore. 
To know what is local and seasonal, first step is to visit your local market regularly.
Buying once a week and storing in fridge for long is not good too.
Search for a Vasaiwali/Vasaiwala in your local market in Mumbai. They always have fresh, organic (not certified though), seasonal and local veggies and fruits. Once you start buying from them, you won't feel like buying from anyone else. 
Don't forget to carry your reusable bags when visiting a local market to avoid asking for single use plastic bags. 
And please don't bargain from these small vendors. 
Swipe to see how I store my veggies in the fridge. I wet the cloth bag, wrong it and put my veggies and store in the fridge. I had once bought #refreshbags for storage for veggies in the fridge. Yes they are good but even my cotton cloth bags work really well.
