Am I doing it right? Where should I be feeling this? I’m feeling this in my back, should I stop? I’m feeling this in my hip flexors, should I stop? I’m feeling this in my neck, should I stop?
Too often we get asked these questions as teachers. It’s our job to reassure and approach these questions from an educated place. Our bodies are designed to move, in all planes, adopt several movement patterns and be strong in all different positions. Our bodies need to be resilient. When we feel things in areas we either haven’t felt before or may be less ‘sexy’ areas, fear often follows that something isn’t right. As a facilitator of movement, teacher and advocate of moving more and well, we should be mindful of the words we use and ask ourselves if we are promoting fear based movement or empowered movement.
Research continues to expand, but what we know for sure is the more we move the better we live — in all directions. Bend, flex, twist, extend, rotate, expand, lengthen, shorten, push, pull. Every single day. ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼 @pilates_republic_au - 2 hours ago
