Today it was back to Gold Valley and the Friday Costcutter on Middle Lake. I drew peg 85 which is the far corner of Middle backing onto Syndicate Lake. It’s a nice peg, but conditions on the day were grim with rain all day and the wind was strong blowing into our bank.
I plumbed up two lines on the pole, 11.5m in front and 11.5m down the left edge behind a tree and next to the polystyrene pontoon.
I started on the pole on the left hand swim to the pontoon cupping in maggots and maggot on the hook. I gave it about 20 minutes but no signs so I chucked a maggot feeder long to the rope and the bank. I didn’t have a touch on this after half an hour and it was dangerous casting so long with the cross wind trying to take the feeder into the trees on the bank, so I started to chuck closer at about 16/17m. All the while I was trying to catapult some maggots on the pole line straight in front. I had 3 F1’s on the feeder over the next 30 mins which was nice.
I then had another look on the pole to the pontoon as I was sure this line would produce on the day. Bingo I had one, but then foul hooked the next 3 before it went quiet. I then had a look on the line in front and it went almost straight away.
Shortly after I had a bite and a fish started to come gently in and I shipped back to my long top one, when it suddenly woke up. After a careful play on an 0.10 bottom and 20 hook, an 8 lb 8 oz carp came to the net, nice!! By now it was about the last 80 minutes and I had about 5 or 6 in the net. The line in front was starting to get stronger and in the end I managed to get a few on double maggot, as soon as my strung out rig got to the bottom. The double maggot, one red and one white seemed to have a slower drop which they were hitting and so I lifted and dropped more to induce more bites. I ended up with 16 F1’s for 23 lb 8 oz plus my carp making a total of 32 lb which was 2nd on the day and won me my section. 39 lb won the match, so not too far off. I wish I’d fished in front earlier but my preconceived idea would be the fish would be along the bank to the left, either on the feeder or the pole to the pontoon. #browning #browningcrowsport #licensedcoach #f1 - 2 minutes ago
