Our House Story Part 3
We immediately began making memories at the land, spending time together building #bonfires with the massive brush piles we cleared, celebrating sons’ birthdays with #campouts with friends complete with #coyotes prowling outside our tents, and 4th of July #celebrations were something special with #fireworks and bonfires with friends and family. We planted a #garden , brought home our first flock of #chickens , built a chicken coop, and then a hawk-proof, coyote-proof chicken yard. We watched our dogs happily free as they chased our sons to the #lake to fish, or to the magical #forest to zip-line through the trees. We cleared and burned thorn trees that popped our UTV tires on more than one occasion. And we mowed. And mowed. And mowed some more. All in efforts to clear the space where we’d put our massive #barndominium .
About the building: We decided what size metal structure we needed, then ordered it from Mueller. Once it was delivered, our welder-metal guy came and erected the massive steel frame, and we watched as he and his team built the biggest Lincoln Log #cabin I’ve ever seen. I had cried when we bought the land. I had cried when I saw the giant slab and walked across it imagining our future there. And I really cried when I saw the house built that we’d only dreamed about in decades past. The L-shape porch with a lake view, next to the special tree with the swing would be where we’d sit and rock babies and sip sweet tea and watch boys run wild and free to their hearts’ content. Windows were installed, and we drew the #floorplan with an architect to begin the interior buildout which we planned ourselves. There would be no super fluffy stuff about this house- because it was temporary- and because NINE BOYS. I began pinning things on my #Pinterest board nightly, designing the interior for the rustic farmhouse feel I’d envisioned for this space. I picked out stair railing, trim, cabinet colors, sinks, countertops, stain color for the concrete, down to paint color for the walls, and light fixtures. It was so much fun and we looked forward to seeing it all come together. - 30 minutes ago
