Jeremy was is town Saturday to present some of his (stunning) charcoal drawings at the @maxwellalanxandergallery in DTLA. Got to reconnect with a bunch of fine folks and forget about the rise of the 7th Cavalry for a second. It was nice. On a purely egotistical standpoint, I got to realize that people still approach me regarding SOLITARY MANN, the documentary I did back in 2015 (Youtube/Vimeo. Link in BIO.) The postpartum psychosis following the wrap of a project like this can be intimidating. You know it’s coming and you know there’s nothing else to do but stand there and wait for the wave to destroy you. Running away, fighting it, keeping busy, will only delay the inevitable, for you shall get soaked my friends.
But like a good night of rain in Los Angeles, with its share of chaos, leaks, slippery roads and mad honking, you get to wake up to a crip morning without smog. The air is so clear it hurts, and the sky is, yet again, fucking blue ! What else did you expect?
OK. It takes a little longer but I’m sure you got the idea. What matters is, each of those films lived a life of its own (or not…), fed the next one, but also became the cornerstone of a solid friendship.
That’s something i’m really proud of, as I’m proud to consider this mad working Mann a friend.
Aside from the feature project(s) and animation I’ve got cooking in my kitchen office, there’s a short film I wanna crank this year. Something strange, experimental, poetic and beautiful.
Can’t wait to be miserable again.
