Non-essential. If that isn’t a blow to the gut for so many of us? I totally agree... photography is art, and art is a luxury. And yet, while this business may be non-essential to society, it’s absolutely essential for me and mine.
I’ve been having a hard time lately, but I’ve been trying to stay positive on social because there’s enough negative out there right now. I was thinking about it today, and I decided to be real this time instead. This business isn’t just my paycheck or a source of income for my family. This is my passion. I’ve been in love with photography as long as I can remember, and being cut off from that has hurt just as much as being cut off from my income.
There are so many silver linings to this situation to help us all keep going each day, but I wanted to let you all know how I’m feeling right now, in this moment. I want you to know that in case you’re feeling the same, so that maybe we can not feel alone on top of the rest.
I have no doubt we’ll get through this, just like I’m fully aware of how much harder this could be. We’re privileged to be able to shelter in place. I’m privileged to be able to pursue my passion during normal times. We’re all privileged to have had the warning that less fortunate countries didn’t get so that we’re busy complaining about finding a good show on Netflix instead of being able to leave the house to buy food and feed our kids.
But it’s all relative, and it’s ok to feel what you’re feeling, and it’s ok to resign a moment to sadness knowing tomorrow you will get up and fight for joy. We will get through this together as long as we continue to work towards flattening the curve and building community. Please #stayhome and stay safe. 🤍
