Prototype 8 (black) and prototype 8E (Yellow). This prototype was printed using an FDM printer. All the fingers use the linkage mechanism, which allows the fingers to adapt to the things when grasped.
The mechanism works by having four links connected in a squared form. Once the inner side of the link touches the object, the outer side will be actuated and pushes the link that is connected.
However, this causes the outer link to pop out, which makes the hand look larger.
The prototype 8 (black) has an ARM-based computer running object detection and selecting the optimal way of grasping the detected objects using TensorFlow.
The goal of building the prototype 8E (yellow) was to make it cheap as possible. This prototype only has a motor and an Arduino, which ultimately made the total cost under 100 US dollars!
