Myth or helpfull? ⬇️ Detox water 🥝 by @fitlife_education
The health market is flooded with ‘’ detox’’ recipes and cures for all sorts of issues. The myth starts with its name. The name detox is short for detoxification which is a medical term for cleaning the body after a drug or alcohol (which is a drug) overdose. Or by people who have a life-threatening drug/alcohol addiction. 👩⚕️👨🔬
This brings up the first myth about detox water.
''Detox water detoxifies your body.''
🚫False, the doctors in hospitals use substances to detox your body. Water with some lemon won’t do the job. Your own body does the detoxing for you. Your liver, kidneys, lungs and other organs make sure you stay healthy.
You can see the word toxic in detoxing. If your body contains toxins you would be dead or very ill.
The second myth is that detox water can change your skin appearance. And that it removes toxins from your skin. 🚫This is also false. There is no scientific proof detox water does this. However drinking WATER is good for the hydration of your skin, this won’t change the appearance of it. And just plain water works for hydration so adding the fruits or vegetables doesn’t improve the effect.
The third myth is that can be used in weight-loss diets. This is partly true. Drinking plain water increases your metabolic rate which helps with digesting food. Also drinking water can reduce your hunger which can make you eat less.
So, some people don’t like drinking water and will grab something less healthy. By adding some lemon or mint to give the water some taste will help you drink water instead of something less healthy.
Lemon adds vitamin C, antioxidants and potassium to the water. It also helps with absorbing iron from foods that are high in iron, like spinach.
Other ingredients have other benefits.
However, the amount of these infused ingredients does not have any meaningful effect.
Look at it as a little bonus.
