TW: mention of police brutality/death
As we all know the murder of George Floyd is just the latest of black lives lost at the hands of police in the US.
And over here in the UK, Greater Manchester police are being investigated after tasering Desmond Mombeyarana in front of his child.
I can't possibly put into words the anger and sorrow I have surrounding events such as these. I haven't watched the video of George, I dont want to, the screenshot alone will forever be imprinted on my mind. I find it absolutely outrageous that a video even needed to go viral in the first place for the arresting officers to be fired/charged.
Fellow white people - your thoughts and prayers are not enough, they never were. We need to do so much more than update our statuses with empty words. We need to teach our children that this kind of behaviour in any form will not be tolerated. We need to call out any of our family or friends showing any derogatory behaviour they have towards black people and when nesseccary cut those people out of our lives if they show no change in themselves. We need to realise our privilege and stand in solidarity with black people. Scream, shout, riot, march. Do whatever you can to raise yours and the voices of black people.
