This story obliterated my heart, taking me on journey of love through the lowest of lows to the highest of highs. I swear I felt every emotion possible listening to it, covering some extremely heavy subjects of domestic abuse- not shying away from going deep into the pain and hurt - but it is a story that needed to be told for the survivors of it and those still in it. I think in my head knowing there was a HEA at the end for Iris, I was able to endure and enjoy where the story took me. Being able to put myself in the heroines shoes and get insight into the pain through words was an emotional and heartbreaking experience. While it was a tough listen there were definitely some scenes that were purely sinful with how sexy and steamy they were between August and Iris. That closet scene - oh boy was that scene undeniably delicious and forbidden - every women’s fantasy. We are the owners of our body and should be able to choose how we treat it and what pleasure or pain we give it. I would highly recommend this audiobook - definitely not one I will ever forget.
“Struggle does not make you weak,” she whispers back. “Struggling against those who hold us is what makes us, over time, stronger than they are. Strong enough to fight back. Strong enough to win.”
This year was all about conquering my fear for these angst filled books.
It seems when I know it is going to be a tough read, I always wonder if my heart take it, can I survive the story. If I read them before I know the hype - I can start with no problem but once the angst level is known - I shy away until I am ready. But this year I took on some of the most heartbreaking stories and I am so glad I got to experience amazing books like this one 😭🧡😭 - 27 seconds ago
