When dieting it’s important to realise as I always stress the ability to maximise satiety with food choice and volume can be vital in regards to adherence and compliance.

Understanding something as simple as the type of vegetables you select can most definitely impact your satiety and hunger. 
It’d be easy to see how for the same calories that the 300g of green beans would fill you up more than the peas corn and carrots so if hunger is an issue and it is impacting your compliance and adherence then focussing on less calories dense options with higher volume could be very beneficial. 
Yes I understand beans can seem brining compared to other veggies but simply with a little soy sauce, seasoning and a sprinkle of Parmesan you will not only maximise volume but not sacrifice taste as well. Did you know that counting calories can sometimes actually make you gain weight? ⠀

Calorie counting increases the stress around eating and causes the brain to feel deprived/starved. As a result we start to experience increased preoccupation with food. We downplay this preoccupation and claim that it’s just us being “on top of the new diet.” However as the days go by our cravings intensify, and eventually we lose control and compulsively eat anything and everything within arms reach. ⠀

Guilt and shame follow but we get “back on track.” Only issue now is that this becomes a cycle that repeats itself every few days and over the course of a week we end up averaging a net caloric surplus instead of the desired deficit. In return the number on the scale keeps climbing up rather than down - despite all the “good” days that I’ve followed my diet (starved) on. ⠀

Sadly, failure and disappointment become the final product of this new diet. I cross it off my list and on to the next one and the story continues...⠀

So what’s the solution if I want to break free from all this? ⠀
.⠀
Learn to eat without rules or rituals. Learn balance and moderation. Don’t go out and eat fast food every day but also don’t starve yourself while trying the next FAD diet. ⠀

Trust your body. Give it a chance to heal. This will take time but you will get there. ⠀

Learning true healthy and balanced eating requires the supervision of a professional who can guide and support you through the process. Un-learning yo-yo dieting requires more effort than you think. ⠀

When in doubt, make a sandwich!

Working from home does have it’s perks, mainly the opportunity to make dishes that don’t meal prep well.  So I’m making the most of all my sandwiches, tacos, pizzas and freshly toasted lunches.  It’s also just a great excuse to each as much sourdough as possible 😀.

Obviously, like all of you, I’ve been training at home for the past several weeks.

But, how big of an impact does this really have on your physique?
__

Muscle growth occurs through multiple ways. Muscle Fatigue , Mechanical Tension and Metabolic Stress.

__

These are fancy shmancy terms for 
Overload (placing more demand on the muscle over time through volume/ resistance).
__

Muscle Damage (creating micro traumas in the muscle). __

And a good ol' fashioned pump, or pushing blood into the muscle.

__

So what does this mean? YOU CAN MAKE GREAT PROGRESS USING LIGHT WEIGHTS.
__

Even when I am not in a quarantine I will cycle my rep ranges and bring them as high as 30-35.

Have you ever done 30-35 reps at full effort? It hurts like hell!
__

As long as you are pushing yourself, continuously training intensely and not using this time to be lax with your workouts, you’re gains aren’t going anywhere. You should actually see some good progression due to the increased amount of reps, intensity and exercise changes.

For me personally , training at home is reminding me of when I first started training. I went to boarding school my senior year of high school and trained in my room. It was me, a preacher bar a set of dumbbells and some creatine. Old school, but hey I made progress from home then and I am now too.
