One way to boost your ability to fight off the flu and the common cold during winter months is to stay hydrated.

You may have never thought about it but dehydration happens just as easily in the cold of winter as in the heat of summer. ⠀⠀
Staying adequately hydrated can help your body eliminate toxins and waste materials, making your immune system able to better fight infection.

Ways to Stay Hydrated

💧Keep drinking water and hot beverages count, too.
Try warming up with a nice cup of home-brewed tea, hot water with lemon and some raw honey. These hot beverages will warm and soothe as well as boost your immune system and keep you hydrated.

💧Eat your water. 
During the winter, citrus fruits are in season and have a high-water content.  They are also an excellent source of vitamin C to boost your immune system and potassium to keep your electrolytes balanced.

💧Moisturize the Air
Don’t forget to break out the air humidifiers or even a steam diffuser.  Diffuse essential oils that boost the immune system like cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, rosemary, orange or lemon. ⠀⠀

•shout out to all my January reset partners in crime!!!•
They are doing amazing things and reaping the benefits! Any time I host a reset or a course, I do the tasks with them, regardless of if I think they’re necessary for me.  This month started rough for me as I kicked and screamed about why I would decide to do this?! •

There are people with RA, Lupus, hormone issues, OCD, fertility struggles, bowel issues, or just plain wanting to start (or reset) their body physiology this month. They’ve restored normal poop, removed the need for ibuprofen, removed heartburn, been in better moods, had less cravings, lost weight, and {my favorite} learned a ton! I just wanted to acknowledge them and their willingness to jump in and embark on a change with such enthusiasm. I couldn’t do it without you. 💚

We know that antibiotics kill good bacteria, so it follows that taking probiotics and antibiotics together is pointless, right? Actually, no. Our biology is wonderfully complex and we shouldn’t think about it in terms of simple mechanics.⁠

Rather than cancelling each other out, research shows that taking probiotics and antibiotics together is a more effective treatment than taking antibiotics alone.⁠

The most relevant study to show this effect is a systematic review of 20,215 patients with H. pylori infections. Patients who took probiotics and antibiotics together were able to clear their infections better than patients who only took antibiotics.⁠

This sort of finding has been found in small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and other gut infections too. Probiotic co-administration with antibiotics tends to enhance treatment results.⁠

SIMPLE KITCHEN HACK:  Put a wet paper towel under your cutting board… Do you have a cutting board that moves around on you?  Does this make you nervous about cutting up veggies or doing other food prep? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What was your journey to finding Integrative Medicine?
Mine started with beginning to practice yoga at 15 years old. I experienced the undeniable connection between the mind and body and after struggling with disordered eating found it as a way to find peace and acceptance within. Later,  I was diagnosed with PCOS and then gestational diabetes (with my second pregnancy)- this drove to me learn more, I did not want to simply take medication without getting to the root cause and I was convinced I could manage both PCOS and gestational diabetes by using food as medicine and looking at how I could change my lifestyle to support my health! The most amazing part- it works and I feel better than ever. I am so thankful for #internationalintegrativehealthday and the amazing tribe of friends, fellows, and colleagues I have built along the way! ___❄️BLUE MONDAY?? What is it all about, or more ideas for surviving a few more weeks of winter ❄️___

Turns out there's a thing called "Blue Monday" which happens to be this week and I completely missed it! It's supposed to be the saddest day of the year and in case you felt some sadness at the start of this week I thought I'd write about a couple more winter hacks that will make this time of year a little nicer. •
•
So in the spirit of aligning with circadian rhythms and doing things as nature intended, keep taking good care of yourself, minimise stress, make rest a priority and sleep at least 7-8 hours a day. This will shift you more into parasympathetic nervous system mode, and your brain will thank you for it by switching into a more positive frame of mind.

We’re in the middle of winter (though closer to spring now!) so your body still needs more substance and more nourishment. Choosing warm drinks and warm cooked foods with good amount of healthy fats will hydrate you better and provide the right kind of fuel to your cells. And choosing warming spices like ginger, black pepper, turmeric, cinnamon and clove will improve circulation, boost your immunity and most importantly - warm you up. •
•
And last but not least - choose this time of year to build deeper connections and nourish your friendships and relationships. We feel happier when we belong and feel connected. And it's certainly easier to get through cold winter darkness when you can spend time with someone you love. And then winter will be over in a blink of an eye! A diario veo pacientes con múltiples enfermedades y es claro que TODOS queremos curarnos de lo que tenemos. Pero como nos cuesta entender que tenga lo que tenga si me alimento mal voy a desencadenar una respuesta inflamatoria en mi cuerpo que va a empeorar TODO: desde problemas metabólicos comunes como diabetes, sobrepeso, hígado graso, triglicéridos altos etc etc, pero también problemas de las defensas, alergias, artrosis, problemas de piel, hipertensión, cáncer..... es decir cualquier enfermedad.
La mala alimentación SIEMPRE es causal o perpetuador de cualquier enfermedad.... pero también es el protagonista de la solución o La Solución como tal de muchas otras. Los terapeutas hemos ignorado por años el poder de nuestro alimento como sanador e ignoramos nuestra propia alimentación y estilo de vida, haciendo que no comprendamos  este rol en la enfermedad del otro.
