A realização de ações específicas em alta velocidade no futebol é uma característica física fundamental dos jogadores de alto nível. Acelerações curtas e sprints lineares são duas das ações mais importantes, pois frequentemente precedem objetivos e outras ações decisivas.

Por outro lado, a maioria das lesões nos isquiotibiais (57%) ocorre durante ações de corrida em alta velocidade. Especificamente, as lesões musculares dos isquiotibiais são as lesões mais prevalentes no futebol, representando 12–16% de todas as lesões. Portanto, parece lógico esperar que a corrida seja um parâmetro-chave no futebol, tanto do ponto de vista de desempenho quanto de lesão.

Tanto o balanço quanto a fase de apoio do sprint, em que os músculos isquiotibiais são submetidos a tensão durante o alongamento (contração musculotendinosa excêntrica) para desacelerar a extensão do joelho, têm sido sugeridos como possíveis cenários de ocorrência de lesões e promoveram os fundamentos dos atuais métodos de prevenção (treinamento de força excêntrico) dos isquiotibiais.

O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar os efeitos do treinamento de força excêntrico dos isquiotibiais (NHE) versus treinamento de sprint programado como complemento à prática regular de futebol.

Os resultados sugerem que o treinamento de sprint foi superior ao NHE, a fim de aumentar o comprimento do fascículo da cabeça longa do bíceps femoral, embora apenas o treinamento de sprint tenha sido capaz de fornecer um estímulo preventivo (aumentar o comprimento do fascículo) e, ao mesmo tempo, melhorar o desempenho e a mecânica do sprint. We are so proud and delighted to say that our Soar programme continues to go from strength to strength and impact lives in a powerful and meaningful way. 
The Functional Fitness for Seniors sessions that we are running in partnership with Ageing Well East Lothian are full in both Haddington and North Berwick and there are only two spots left in Dunbar. 
This, along with our ever growing sessions at our HQ - Go Train East Rocks at @foxlake_adventures means we are helping nearly 50 people over the age of 50 in our local communities get fitter, stronger and ever more prepared for whatever life brings. 
Gavin runs sessions that are supportive, challenging, progressive and, most importantly, fun.

Fantastic work Gav, and thank you to Ageing Well,  Enjoyleisure in East Lothian and East Lothian Council.

We can learn from their function and dysfunction 
By following the subtle clues of our bodies. We can take these understandings as a way to make shifts  in our lives, towards the thriving human beings we desire. 
Local stabilizers 
their job is to activate before we move. 
Provide postural stability to our body 
Question - what are my structures, systems, practices, rituals that create the posture and routine of my life. They are the structure and background workers. What provides me with stability? 
Global stabilizer 
Their job is to control the joint, throughout its range of motion 
Question - what tools and strategies do I have in place to bring me back to center, composure, the present moment when life is going on around me? 
Life is always in motion - so what provides me a sense of safety through the dynamics of life ? 
Global mobilizer 
Their job is to produce movement. 
Question - what movements am I doing ? What is my life consisting of ? Do I listen to my body and what it wants ? 
Am I intentional and conscious about what I am creating ?
