Test tiles are done. They are amazing! Can’t wait to get these glazes onto the pieces. Let the fun begin! .
Now we need to make some more test tile pieces so that we can test some more glazes. .
In some ways glazing can be the scariest part of pottery. Test tiles can help minimize that risk. .
At the beginning of every piece, the piece is made and there is a chance that it won’t turn out right. But at this point the clay can always be reworked. So, although it can be hard to loose a piece, all that is really lost, at this point, is time.
The next stage is letting it dry. Again, it could be ruined, but the clay can still be reworked, and sometimes repaired it at this stage. .
Next it is bisque fired. Here some pieces might be lost due to cracking or warping, among other things. But, after this, the pieces have been weeded out from the good, the bad, and the ugly. What is left are the best pieces. At this stage every potter is excited about what they have. .
But then comes the final stages. It’s time to add the glaze. If there hasn’t been any testing done on these glazes or the potter hasn’t used the glazes on a finished piece before, in the combination that they are using them, the piece could come out of the kiln as the ugliest piece ever made or the best, but no one knows until the kiln is opened. Glaze makes or breaks the piece. .
Test tiles are the heart of our glazing process. They are how we make sure our beloved pieces will come out from the final stage and be beautiful. #glaze #glazingpottery #glazing #pottery #potter #art #paint #amazing #coyote #mayco #maycoglaze #coyoteglaze #funbegins #letthefunbegin #test #tests #textiles #textileart #tile #tiles #heart #heartofpottery #heartofart - 12 hours ago
